Ok, I've found I can get my hands on a copy of the game, but I want to hear
some success stories (Crossing my fingers there are some of them) about
getting the game to run on a modern computer. I've got a P4 2.4 running
Win XP Pro. I remember this game was a total pain getting all the drivers
right when we had an old 386 then a 486. The memory was the biggest issue.
But I was sooo young then and the technology was so ancient... I've tried
replaying some of my old games in the past few years, and have never had
much success getting true DOS based games to ever work, and it's such a buzz
kill.
So, someone, anyone, is it possible to run this game in windows with the use
of some DOS emulator, perhaps? Does anyone have a boot disk they can put in
a ZIP file and send me and I can modify it for my own use? Can anyone point
me to a wealth of this specific knowledge somewhere online? It would be
greatly appreciated. As soon as I know it's quite possible to run the game
I will be back reliving my young childhood! Thanks!
(If all else fails, maybe I'll bodge that old 486 back together with all the
old hardware spares and have a computer dedicated for old DOS games!)

While Exult is the (arguably) the best method of playing Ultima7, also
take a look at DOSBox:
http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/news.php?show_news=1
This is a freeware program designed on emulating a DOS environment for
older games. It's still in development so it's not perfect yet, but
you can get a lot of older games running already. Ideally, with DOSBox
there'll be no need to have an old 486 hanging around just to play our
old favorites. >> Stay informed about: Running U VII: Black Gate |

I am running such a DOS emulator right now. And
with no problems. But I must right-click on the program,
and not on the game. If I do, it responds as the normal
game. And I must disable expanded memory. That's
is all I had to do
