I feel really screwed over for my Warlock now. Why isnt Essence of
Undeath as available post expansion as the other essences are?

At least on my server my mage will be able to cheaply make a Robe of
the Archmage, but my warlock would have to fork over over 200 just for
the essences of undeath, and that's IF they show up on the auction
house. I've only seen Essence of Undeath on the AH twice in the last
month and both times they were 13+ gold apiece.

Likeweise, my rogue just crafted his stormshroud set relatively
cheaply. The only expensive part was the essences to make the
enchanted leather.

you'll make Robe of the Archmage then replace it with a green on your
first day Outland.

My mage wore that robe for ages, and it was gone a couple hours after
arriving in HFP.

Essence of water and fire and whatever else drop from their respective
elementals in Outland.

Essence of Undeath would obviously have to drop from Undead mobs. Of
which, I don't believe there are any in Outland. There are ghosts in
Outland but I think they are counted as humanoids instead of undead.

So the only place to get Essence of Undeath is in Azeroth,
specifically undead filled dungeons such as Scholo and UD Strat.
There is alsoa chance to get a drop from zone mobs too, though that
is very low chance. With the lack of people running those old
instances, there aren't going to be many essences showing up on the
auction house. Low supply + high demand = high price.

Like the other poster said, those are great robes, but Outland greens
you can get at level 58 will be much better than anything you can
craft at level 58.

My latest warlock wore his Enchanted Gold Bloodrobe, with an +stamina
enchant on it, until level 58, at which point the Outland greens took
over. I didn't feel it was worth running instances or buying on the
AH when at level 58 I can get better stuff from quest rewards and
drops.

Same for me, but I do know of a very small number of people who
continue to play the game who don't have the expansion. Not common,
but they're out there. I suppose that if you're into PVP you can
still PVP in the lvl 51-60 bracket just fine in the old bg's. For
someone like that the Robe of the Archmage is a heck of a piece at the
prices the essences are going for now. I can barely get 50s out of
them (and I once got 14g each for Essence of Air).

Good lord, kill pathetic undead in plagelands for an hour and you'll have
enough. *

Expedition Armory in HFP, and wandering around the bone wastes in Terokkar
both come to mind quickly, I think also the ghosts in Kiriv'Var are listed
as undead, though I may be wrong. Also Auchenai Crypts, some of the arakkoa
in Sethekk, the invisible undead in SMV that you can see with spectrcles...
there's more undead in Outland than I'd realised! Oh and the ghosts outside
Karazhan as well of course, even if it's technically not in Outland you
can't really kill then without having TBC unless you get a group of 4-5 lvl
60s.

There *should* be drops off the undead in Outland in my opinion... sadly I
don't think there are any. However when I looked it up just now I noticed
an alchemy recipe to transmute water to undeath... if I can get hold of
that recipe I may just check out the relative prices of water and undeath
on my server and see how much profit it might make Wink

Hehe my lock wore his till 61, as I didn't get lucky with finding anything
better on the AH, and didn't happen to do the quests with chest rewards all
that fast Wink But yeah, through the 50s I didn't bother buying much, except
for cheap stuff, as there wasn't a lot of point when I'd replace it all
fast; at the moment my necklace is my only Azeroth item left (and it's a JC
one so higher quality than drops anyway) and I have a quest which will get
me an upgrade for it.
