Even though I have only played the Game a few hours, There are a few
areas that are clear to me about this game. First Graphics: This game
really Shines in that department making the world believable and
Stunning. The Most incredible effects are the explosions which are a
major change from the Explosions in Past GTA Games... These have
dense smoke, realistic flames and Fire that Lingers after for a
while. The graphics are so good in fact that some areas really look
almost photorealistic. As for the gameplay, its pretty much GTA
Except that many extras were added such as your dates, missions, and
phonebook are on your cell phone which you have.
There is also a TV In your house you use an internet Cafe named TW@
Internet Cafe..
Yeah if you figured the full name out you are just scratching the
surface on how much vulgar language this game has... bump into someone
and your greeted with a realistic way a person might respond by
cursing you and engaging in a fight. Again this game makes past GTA
Games tame as far as the language used. In the missions your also
able to play mini games such going to a bowling alley ... these extras
add even more realism...
When you get into MP ...Which is controlled with your cell and you
can start a mp game anytime you like...the chaos is what you expect
dropping people into a game with vehicles, weapons and anything goes
in a death match... This I believe will be the area where GTA IV
Really shines once you finish the SP.
The only real major difference I have found are the Side missions...
No Firetruck missions where you just take a firetruck and start a
mission. As far as cop cars and taxis, Taxis will get missions
further in the game thus its part of the sp story. And cop cars can be
taken and the computer system used to go on missions... more realistic
and good thing Rockstar did away with the way it was... too arcady.
If I HAD To rate this on the few hours I would give it an 8/10 only
because the controls scheme could have been better with vehicles not
locked in and centered as you drive, you must control camera with
right stick and steering with left stick. >> Stay informed about: My Review Of GTA IV So Far... |

The first character I 'interacted' with was a bum on the beach who offered to give me a blowjob for
money. Then a prompt came up where I COULD give him money. I... didn't have the courage to pay him
and see what happened next. I beat him up instead.
This is fun!

I hope they're unlockable or something; in my opinion, driving
side missions add a huge amount of replay value (though I know
the multiplay will also in GTA4).
The in-story taxi missions are essentially unlockable (though it
isn't the same style as GTA3 series), and I stole a cop car but
wasn't able to do any vigilante-type stuff, so maybe that's an
unlock too. I can't find an ambulance around the hospital, either.
Googling around, here's a purported list of known side missions:
assassin, exotic escort, criminal capture, package delivery, unique
stunts ,taxi, paramedic, police, firefighter, car delivery, hidden
packages.
So it looks like ambulance and fire missions are unlocked somehow.
Also, the vigilante missions apparently have normal and 'most
wanted' type missions.
It does look like GTA4 is trying to be more realistic and less
arcady. I really like how you have to ditch your wanted level
now. I did one mission with Little Jacob, where I finished the
mission but had to lose my wanted level before bringing him
back home. I took a curve too fast and we flipped over on a
beach, but I was able to run outside the wanted area on the
beach.
Also, you can swim, but if you swim to an island that you
haven't unlocked, you have 6 stars (since the bridges are
closed for a terrorist threat, I assume the cops think you're
a terrorist).
Can't comment on the blurriness, I'm just using an old TV.
I did see one really bad popup when I ressed at the hospital
and the potted plants there didn't appear until I walked into
them.
Overall, I like it, but I have to get used to the controls.
I'm on a 360, but it sounds like the PS3 controls are also
different from earlier GTAs, right? No L1R1 to look back,
R3 for that on a PS3? I miss left & right look, but those
buttons are needed more for shooting, etc.
Took a long time to figure out how to break that guy's
window...

I noticed the cars burn longer before they explode. On earlier games,
you see flames, you better run. In IV you can even drive into a traffic
jam, exit the car, walk away and enjoy the fireworks.

Right. The beach part west of Francis International is just breathtaking.

Well, TW@T internet café existed in GTA III already but back then, you
could not do anything there.

Plus there are hundreds or thousands of different characters walking the
streets. Have you met the captain or the rabbi already? I accidentally
bumped into the rabbi and he was shouting at me in what sounded like hebrew!

I will give that a try, once I have finished single player mode. I am
not so much a multiplayer fan because I am a bit oldschool here.
Multiplayer means sitting in front of the TV with some friends around
and then use split-screen. Ever played Bomberman with five players
crammed in front of a 14" Amiga screen? Then you would know what
multiplayer really means. = Anyway, it is good for GTA to have a
multiplayer mode as there are enough people out there that will love it.

The camera is as sloppy as always. With the controls, I set them to
"classic" and I'd like to be able to press L2+R2 to set the camera
behind the car. Now it is pressing R3 which I am not used to.

Yes; no question it's much harder. More than once I escaped the red
circle, only to run into more police while the stars were blinking and
become an active fugitive again.
The UI in general has been simplified; despite the much-greater real
estate on my high-definition screen, the only visible elements are the
minimap (which also cleverly serves as the healthbar), labels for the
street and neighborhood, and police stars. Time and money are only
accessible via the pause button.
My sofa is across the room from my 47" flat panel. Despite the panel's
size, the icons are on the minimap marking objectives and amenities
are too small to make out; unless there's a way to enlarge them that I
haven't found yet I'm going to have to sit a little closer.

I haven't gone above two stars yet. I presume an amazing amount of
military hardware gets aimed at you at six?

Looks fine on my flat panel. I did see a few cases of popups and one
or two cases of "stickiness" (where panning isn't completely smooth,
jerking for a moment), but nothing obtrusive. The real test will be
aircraft, of course; that's what caused the most-noticeable popups in
San Andreas on my PS2.
> Overall, I like it, but I have to get used to the controls.
I set it to classic; it'd been 3 1/2 years since San Andreas on the
PS2, but my muscle memory stil found pushing A, X, and the right
shoulder button to accelerate, brake, and handbrake more comfortable
than the default arrangement. I'm sure that had I played the previous
titles on an Xbox I would have felt differently. Pushing the right
stick to look backwards wasn't inconvenient, though.
Speaking of driving, complaint #2 about the user interface is that the
camera won't stay where I set it to when driving. I prefer the camera
be tilted down a little more, but whenever I do so it returns to the
default.

Yes, I hate the tiny icons, both map and the control button icons.
I wish there was a setting to make them larger.

I lasted a bit longer than I expected, but I was getting shot at from
a lot of helicopters. I didn't see any tanks, but in GTA3+
they seemed to take a little while to show up too.

I've played all the previous games on a PS/PS2, just GTA4
on the 360.

I mostly have problems with getting the camera to swing around;
momentarily clicking R3 works, of course. For camera tilting,
I set my controls to flip the Y axis, as I tend to push the
left joystick forward as I drive anyway. But I like a fairly
high up angle, at max distance.

I had a weird one. I had picked up a knife and was basically mugging
folks, I attacked this woman and she fell next to a car and Niko or
whatever he is called then continued to stab her, over and over. I had
to keep pressing different buttons until something jerked him out of
the motion.

I got maximum stars twice by accident (straying into places I
shouldn't) and thing got interesting for the short time I was alive

There is a setting called "Classic" which is almost like it ever was,
except for the camera adjusting. OTOH, the controls differed from every
GTA game to the next one, so one can get used to it pretty fast.
