Have been operating just fine with 4 communities - 3 native to game + 1 we
created.

Quit game the other day (in wee hours of morning) normally, it all seemed.

Logging back in, only 3 communities 'visible' to game - 2 of the native ones
and the 1 we created.

Looking at files, everything appears to be present and located where it
should be. It is just that game
no longer 'sees' it on starting. I have invested TONS of time and effort
into this community and really hate to
lose it.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Heather Hannaford

Are you saying that either 'Pleasant View', 'Strange Town' or 'Verona Ville'
has suddenly stopped being an option in your neighbourhoods screen? Or are
you talking about 'Downtown', 'University', etc?

Either way it is weird.

If it's PV, ST or VV I'd suggest checking that the neighbourhoods numbers
have not somehow become corrupt (I don't know how it could happen but I do
know that inconsistent numbering can render a neighbourhood invisible). Open
your 'C:\Documents and Settings\Madame Mim\My Documents\EA Games\The Sims
2\Neighbourhoods\N00#' (Where 'Madame Mim' is the name of your computer
desktop/configuration and N00# is the number of the appropriate
neighbourhood) there should be a whole pile of files in that folder (and the
ones beneath it) that start with N00# and they all need to be the same N00#
as the folder they are in and _different_ N00#'s from the other
neighbourhood numbers).

I have no ideas if you have lost sub-neighbourhoods - sorry.

Well, I learned the hard way to back up a neighborhood every so often, just
in case it breaks. But you might try SimPE - it has an option to try to
repair bad neighborhoods, I think. Doesn't always work, but might be worth a
try

Verona Ville stopped being an option on neighborhoods screen.

Checked the numbers, per your suggestion, and they are there / look okay.

Downloaded SimPE and had something interesting occur.

When I click on Neighborhoods viewer, all four show up, but Verona has a
different naming deal.
All the others just show their name under the thumbnail, while 'Verona'
shows the full file path name.

I can 'open' all the neighborhoods but Verona in SimPE. When I try to open
it, SimPE just seems to hang.

Looking at all the folders and files under Windows Explorer, all the
structures look the same, contents seem the same, etc., among
all the neighborhoods.

Any ideas out there? Some guidance on SimPE would be welcome...if there are
any specific tools to try or tricks / repairs.

We did a scan of everything in Downloads, for example, and got a clean bill
of health.

Did a backup and restore of the 'buggered' Verona Ville...and, while that
process seemed to work, it didn't help our situation.

I don't know if this would work, and I know you want to keep the Veronaville
you have played, but try replacing it with a clean version.

Back up all your neighbourhoods, just remove all of them to somewhere safe.
When you restart the game it will regenerate the lot. If Veronaville has
reappeared, replace the others with your originals, Veronaville is N003, so
you should just remove N001, N002 and your other one, presumably N004, and
put back the saved files.

Make sure Veronaville is there next time you load.

Then, rather than replacing N003 with the old one, try removing all the
files inside the folder and replace them with the files inside the folder of
your saved one.
