'Rep Bonds' I decided to handle this as: "Status (merc), rep bond still
valid, perhaps paid as
Insurance"

How did other GURPS players / refs handle this?

OK, you do realize that a repatriation bond is part of a contract
between the mercenary unit and the hiring power, right? It is a fund,
placed with a neutral bank or brokerage, to be used to remove
surviving members of the mercenary force should their employers be
unable to provide this service due to losing the war, damage to
infrastructure, or them all being dead.

It is not part of the character.

Now, if you're part of a unit, you'd take the group as a mixture of
Duty and Ally Group. If the unit has a repatriation bond, then the
merc is covered.

Repat Bond, Good ans.! But as this Character is designed he was not 'In

Ally Group or Patron, depending on the PC's status (rank) in the unit,
although the PC doesn't have to have either.

So he's not in a mercenary unit, or if he is he's not active? He
should just have Courtesy Rank (whatever) and I'm not sure why he
would actually *have* a repatriation bond.

A repatriation bond is basically two things:

(a) a guarantee of travel to a particular place
(b) a sum of money, held in escrow, to pay for the trip

and the funds are made available[1] on termination of the contract,
either through completion or other means.

So really, it's basically a starship ticket, a possession. Plus
it *might* get you around some customs and immigration hassle, but
probably not that much.

[1] I guess the agency holding the bond might make the
travel arrangements, too, but it's not really required.

First of all, please use complete words. We're not using Western
Union here; having to count every character.

If he is not in service and on a contract, he does not have a Bond. If
he is enlisted in a mercenary unit that is not currently serving on a
contract, he does not have a Bond. Even if his is under contract, the
existence of a Bond is entirely a matter of what passed between the
unit and the contracting party. Is that clear enough for you? Read
what I wrote *again.* A Bond will not be on the character sheet.
