Some people do, but you don't have to. As far as I can tell, it just
means that only an idiot will choose an RP server and then complain when
he sees people role-playing their characters.

It means you make up a backstory for your character - usually, I find,
involving parents being slain by X and leaving you as an orphan - and
waffling on about irrelevant things like "Do gnomes have souls" in
General Chat. Actual role-playing is flimsy, overly contrived and
very unsatisfying.
It's nothing like 'pencil and paper' roleplaying, which is far more
interesting.

I am not on a RP server yet I might accuse many players on my server
of utilizing RP options on a non-RP server. My guess is that their
toons are all of the following - 3rd grade dropouts, sexually
dysfunctional, attention seekers, apathetic about hard work, suffering
from Tourette's Syndrome, mean-spirited, cantankorous fools.
Three cheers for the RPs who exist everywhere!
OH! OH! OH!

Define "utilizing RP options"

Those people sound less likely to be into role playing and I find
types, or people like them, on all servers, I rarely find any actual
role players even on RP servers.

It meant when you (i.e. your character) refers to a metagame phenomena
(e.g. talking about hitpoints or mana points or aggro), without a clear
OOC tag, then my character will bitch at you.
That is, if I'm bored (i.e. if I'm grinding). If I'm not bored, my
character will most likely not make a comment, and most likely nobody
will either, and Blizzard does nothing to keep the RP realms pure.

Yes, and when you are ganked, the ganker is supposed to say "Oy, my
humblest apologies for inserting my shiv into thine kidney, good sir!
I shall callest a doctor for thee, post haste!" >> Stay informed about: What does a RP (Role Playing ) server mean exactly? |

Erm, unless you name your character something that anybody on that
server might remotely consider 'non-RP', and complain to the GM's
about. At which point you will receive a notice to rename your
character immediately to something 'appropriate', or they will rename
it for you. Presumably with a click of their random name generator.

LOL @ Nemesis. Apparently you have never encountered sarcasm before,

Yeah, that doesn't work so well because nobody's that bothered. I've
known of two players that had to change their names. I've reported a
friends name once and nothing happened to him. (I reported him on his
request as he regretted his name - I think that it might have been a
rogue with "stealth" in the name)
I saw Johncarter on the Isle of QD the other day. I really don't
think that he should have got to 70 with that name. Back when I was
under the false belief that the RP part of my RPPVP server meant
anything I'd have reported him.

| Related Topics: | "I do not think your role is what you think is" - Just had a most enjoyable Underbog run. Warrior(63), Paladin(63), Druid(64), Hunter (66), Priest (66). (Not entirely sure of the levels except for the hunter and priest) At first we went for the traditional roles. *shrug* We were doing okay that way....
PVP and a pets role in DPS. - Does anyone know if there is a list of pets (lev 60) and there average dps and peak dps with crits, if this list also had the hunters build that would be very useful (was it a BM build basically). Trying to work out if it is worth investing points in..
Learn My Role - Druid PvP - hey all, For the past 20 or so levels I havent gone out and PvPed much, but as im quickly approaching 60 and i tend to be more casual i feel like ill probably hit up BG a lot more than before. That said im a druid, currently feral speced holding out on...
Druids Role in Instances - Hi, I am just about to start a Druid alt now, and I wonder what roles they usually have in instances? Are you expected to be a healbot or can you dps and tank as well? I have read about druids and expect to spec him feral with cat dps in mind, and I..
So what server.... - Does everybody play on? Most people I've talked to it's Hellscream, Gilneas or Doom hammer... where does everybody here play? |
