as i im bored and have a wierd mind
I would like to remove all the maps and sounds and textures and everything
that is not needed to run UT99.
I would like to remove everything that is not needed but still beable to
connect to a server and start downloading everything from scratch.
all i want is enough to get the game started and then connect to a server
for everything else.
has this been done ( im sure i am not the first)?
and help on what is NOT needed from a base install upgraded v436.
thanks for any help..

I'm curious as to why? You are just lagging a game to get the same exact
files that are in your installer package. >> Stay informed about: REQ: info for a minimun UT99 install |

Yeah, I'm kinda intrigued by it, too.
You'd need to have most of the contents in /System
You'd likely need the directory structure under /Unreal Tournmant, but you
could delete almost all the in the directories themselves. If you changed
the startup fly-by sequence, you could probably replace it with a bitmap
image, thereby removing the need for all the flyby's Map, Textures etc.
I think there's a file called UT-Logo-Map.unr for that, edit your
UnrealTournament.ini file to reflect that.
A base install is really not a lot of data though, is it? If your goal
is to boot a live CD with UT on it, there would almost certainly be enough
room to include an entire install of UT.
You could just descend into your UT installation and rename the various
directories, then create an empty replacement directory. Fire up UT, see what
it does/says.

The main reason that i am playing with this is that i have 4 people
playing on a server, and im the guy who has to deal will issues with maps
not working and such. since we play on almost none of the maps that come
with UT99, i want to remove them all and all the files that support them
that are not needed.then when i have it down to next to nothing i will
add map by map that we play with only the files needed to play the maps.
while i know im not saveing a lot of space. this was at least when all is
said and done no one can complain to me that they have to wait for a map
to load, or that somthing is not working, or that they have no space on
their old old old computer that they are too cheap to upgrade.
when all is said and done i would like ut99 and 50 to 100 good maps to
fit on a cd. an dif any one messes anything up they can just reinstall it
all off the cd.
but mostly because im bored..

If everyone has a retail CD then there's no reason you can't create a map
installer CD with whatever you want on it and distribute it amongst your
pals. You are trying to take two steps back for no reason. You won't need to
dump things, just make sure everyone has the maps in your rotation. Anything
extra is just ignored anyway.
Unless you are looking at stock maps, I don't think you can get 50 on an
install disk riding with UT99. The textures and music files you would need
to add in would get pretty big in a hurry. Just look at your game folder
after a weekend of online play and see how much it grew from pulling down
the odd bits you needed. >> Stay informed about: REQ: info for a minimun UT99 install |

If you're bored, then do it right, setup a UT redirect server,
compress all the files (search for compressalot, it works great) and
serve up compressed files like the big boys do. Not that hard to do.

Try using affectionate names such as "honey", "sweety", "booty-pie"
and the like to mask your short term memory loss

good luck
