Well, in any case anyone cares, it looks like my real-life is going
amazing well. (For once.) I've all but nailed a management job in my
best field, in a reasonably good company. Last interview is tomorrow
(and it's a formality). So it looks like I won't have quite as much
time to play WW. I'm not complaining. Kinda hard to recharge your DS
when you're living on the street.
SPOILERS FOLLOW IF YOU HAVEN'T PLAYED ACWW--
Well, I accidently slept through KK Slider's visit. I got to 7:30 PM,
saw him tuning up, started watching "A Wonderful Life" and promptly
passed out. The two bottles of White Zin may have had something to do
with it...I don't know. But I strongly suspect I'll have other chances.
My shovel has finally started coming in handy...The fact that the
ground is now white (rather than brown) might have something to do with
that. I now have five fossils and two gyroids. The fossil museum is
just going to look lovely, assuming I finish it before dying of
Alzheimer's. At least we don't have to mail anything off anymore.
(Blathers took a correspondance course in paleobiology.)
I managed to round up one last fish, the fresh-water goby, for a
(presumably) semi-final total of 25. Ocean fishing is, again, more
profitable than river fishing, particularly now that the fish can swim
away. And now that there are many more ocean fish, it's not quite as
painfully boring. Our good friend the Sea Bass is still annoying, but
not as nearly so as in GC.
My net is still useless. With the coming of the snow, mosquitoes seem
to have gone (missed that one by a single day!) but I did recall one
bug that's still around...The Pill Bug. And I found one today. Couldn't
catch it, because I'm still iffy with the controls. But it's there.
There's at least one tree bug (as I mentioned) but I can't ever see it
before it buzzes away. And, of course, there are Mole Crickets and
Bees, but I don't feel like frustrating myself unneccesarily right now.
In the flotsam and jetsom department, I found my first coconut today. I
planted it in a nice quiet spot by the edge of the beach, but when I
tried to water it, I instead accidently dug it up. And killed it. Not
bright. (Still trying to master the stylus/buttons...) Oh well. Again,
I'll get other chances. From what I've seen in the Bug Museum, it looks
like we will *need* the palms. At least by summer, anyway...I also got
my first Message in a Bottle. Just a cryptic note, no items. I haven't
visited anyone yet, so it must be in-game.
I still can't shoot down any balloons. I don't catch the cues until
it's almost too late, and then, I go haywire with the controls.
My house addition went fine. I didn't manage to pay off the last 25K
until D6, so only today on D7 did I check it out. Oddly, you don't get
a choice in WW as to what you get at this point. You get a 6X6 second
floor and a 598K mortgage. (Your "bedroom" is the third
floor.)Apparently the basement must be very last? My debt is at 550K at
this point, so it may be some time before I find out.
Sow Joan came by on D6. I bought 100 turnips at 98 or so. That is, 100
white turnips. She now has...Red Turnips! Problem: she only has seeds
for them. And she only has (or had) one pack. Not very expensive,
either. Apparently, you have to plant them, then water for (at least?)
a week before Nook will give you any serious cash for them. I don't
really feel like serious experimentation right now, so I'm holding my
seed pack in storage for now. (I've already destroyed one perfectly
good coconut...)
And someone else here has reported that white turnips are no longer the
cash cow they used to be, so I'm regetting even buying those. Actually,
I bought 110, so I can always use the 10-bunch to catch an Ant. At the
rate Iim going, that's going to be the only bug I'll have for a while.
Looks like villagers max out at 8...Boone is (apparently) my last
immigrant. Thought he would be a dog, but no.
AND NOW FOR THE MAIN EVENT--
Redd showed up today. Yep, Lyle does in fact arrange his visits, and
I'm now pretty certain that he comes once a week.
Redd now has his own logo for his tent...A gingko leaf. Appropriate,
considering how badly the tree smells when it's fruiting...
He is also now password-protected. I'll let you figure out what that
means. Don't worry, keep trying long enough and you'll figure it out.
Or something like that.
I was thrilled once I got in, only to discover that he wouldn't sell me
anything. Don't worry, this is even easier. Bring cash. Think Lyle. At
least Redd'll be sending me mail now. Hey, I'm now part of the
"family"...
There were (as before) only three items for sale, but the prices were
more reasonable than in GC, so I just bought them all, since I don't
think anyone knows which items are Redd-only (or even if there are any
Redd-only items).
I was particularly excited to see a Painting for sale...Van Gogh's
"Sunflowers", in fact. Natch, it was the first thing I bought, and I
dashed off to Blathers to contribute my first peice of art to the
museum. Blathers was not impressed. Forgery! What?...What?...A
forgery?! From a dishonest, black-marketeering, hopelessly corrupt fox?
Actually, I couldn't believe it. I went to Nook's searched for the
"Flowery Painting" in my catalog, couldn't find it, checked my
inventory, and noted it had been renamed "Forged Painting"...
Remember what Blathers used to tell you when you'd give him two of the
same painting? It seems that *someone* was "inspired" by his concerns.
Grrrrrr...I checked Gamefaqs real quick to see what they had to say
about the matter and (MASSIVE SPOILER) there is no way to avoid this.
You can't tell whether it's real or not. Only Blathers knows. And Redd
won't let you take it out for an appraisal.
My villagers have taken to calling me "Cookie". My name is not
"Cookie". My name is Thom. Do not call me "Cookie". Do you see this
slingshot here? (This tactic has not been working.) How long must I be
called "Cookie"?
Resetti is back...He popped up the night I, uh, overslept on KK. Funny,
I don't _remember_ turning off the power without saving. But I suppose
I *could* have. Or it might be a set piece, keyed at a certain point in
the game (as per Lyle). Then again, when I "oversleep", I generally
tend to forget a certain amount of things...Like: where I am, what my
name is, where did I put my car keys, did I remember my wallet, who is
the woman on the other side of the bed...Minor things, basically.
By the way, Resetti has not improved his manners.
Oh, and I bought a pair of silver frames (glasses) today, so now my
character looks almost exactly like me. I can't wait till the barber
shop opens...Then I can pencil in the beard stubble. (I always look
like I'm unshaven. Most of the time, this is true.)
Anyway, that does it for this wonderful WW update. If you have not
already done so, BUY THIS GAME. I have started sending out my friend
code to a couple folks--ONLY ON THIS BOARD--and if you want it, I'm at
thomforesta.TakeThisOut@yahoo.com ...Don't forget to include your character name
and village.
