I have a 1.80 AMD Sempron with 256MB and nVIDIA GeForce 6100 on board video.
I'm thinking about doubling the ram. Would that help (can't play with the
ram I have) or should I get a 512MB stick with the 256 I have? I know more
is better, but I know very little about DDR SDRAM.

More RAM would deffinately help, but your PC isn't really a gaming PC, so
getting a better processor, Either an Athlon XP or 64, depending on the
socket, would help, and getting a graphics card would also help, do you know
what motherboard you have?

If not go start > run > dxdiag and copy everything under 'system
manufacturer' and 'system model'.

It will help - a little, but you should get at least 1GB.

It should be enough, I've played the game on slower machines than that
and you won't notice much difference in performance between your
machine and a much faster machine as far as the Sims2 is concerned.

A better graphics card will of cource make the game look better but it
won't run faster.

I had the joy of talking to someone from Gateway/eMachines who told me they
would not sell me RAM unless I had a US address. I'm in Canada. I'll get
RAM. Just from a local guy. I can get 256 (I think it is) for $50. I don't
know if he has 1 ot even 2 GB
