I have a full version of Quake for DOS (paid for). The problem is
after about 15-20 minutes of game play the screen goes black and I
have to quit and restart the game. Has anyone heard of this problem
before and/or experienced it themselves? And has anyone found a
solution to the problem?

Thanks,
Colin

Do you know if this version will run under DOS?

Cheers,

Sorry about that, I did't realize you were running DOS. They are Windows
ports only.

That is quite all right. If you know of any ports for DOS, please let
me know.

Cheers,
Colin

This is just a wild guess. If you have a screen saver or power down set
for 15-20 minutes of being idle, it may not recognize that you're using
the computer when in DOS mode. I played Quake for years in DOS mode on
a Windows 95 PC, and that's the only thing I can think of that would
make it go black after 15 minutes.

I, however,am not in DOS mode, I am running it on a DOS machine.
Thanks for the thought though. I have played many games for longer
that 15 minutes and not had this problem.

Colin

Haven't heard of that one... there may be an option in the bios that
automatically turns off the monitor after ~15 minutes, which could be
causing the problems.

My best advice at this time is to experiment with the following
console commands:
- gamma
- vid_mode, vid_testmode, vid_forcemode, menu_video (vid_describemodes
to list available choices)
- v_cshift (default = 1 1 1 1)
