Hey guys, I have a Qix and the former owner said it worked great and
then just stopped working. I get no picture on the screen at all.
The red LED's do light up on the board set and the +5 looks OK. Are
there any common failure points that I should look at (ie:
interconnect cables)? I really wish I could get this thing working.
Thanks, Ryan

It took me forever to get mine going and it still has its days. I
found the power supplies to be a common failure as well as the ribbon
cables. I replaced all of them and put a switcher in there from
Arcadeshop who sells a kit for it.

I agree the power supply is one of the biggest turds ever even if it
works get Arcadeshops switcher to avoid the inevitable. Second check the
battery for acid leakage if there is more than a trace amount you could
be bumming. Is the monitor working?

I responded to this last night, but am not sure if it went through or
not. There are a lot of common problems with anything that starts with
"Taito". First question, what monitor is in it? (WG, Electrohome,
Happ) Second question, Do you hear game sounds when it is on, even
though you have no picture? Third question, is it a conversion to Qix,
or was it originally a Qix?

Hi Ryan, I used to have a Quix cocktail and I sold it because it was
one game I could never get to work.I probly could have got it if I
stuck with it but I had allready spent way to much time messing with
it.Mine had all the correct voltages and the monitor worked so it had
to be a board problem with mine.Wish you luck with yours.....Dave

Thanks for the suggestions guys! The monitor glows so I think it's
OK. I will check out the PCB for acid damage. It has an original
monitor (G07 I believe). There are no game sounds. It's a dedicated
Qix with a dedicated board set.

I wouldn't bother checking the monitor...

The game has to boot up for a bit before the video CPU configures the 6845
CRT contoller to put out proper video/sync.

Hit the self-test button and see if you can get any useful error codes out
of the LED stack.
