Post subject: Old Punkbuster question
Archived from groups: alt>games>battlefield1942 (more info?)

Hi,
Please correct me if my info is wrong. A buddy and I installed the last
1942 update and started having online-multiplayer problems with, I think,
Punkbuster....again I think this was quite a while back. So we uninstalled
and went back to the previous version and have been playing it ever since
(co-op against each other). I'd like to get back in the servers to play DC
but this older version doesn't allow me to.

My question: What is the fix for this? Through Punkbuster's site or ???

Thanks and sorry to bring up a probably very old subject.

Let me guess, you were kick after a few minutes because "Punkbuster" failed
to update? Are you behind a router? If so you need to open up a port so PB
can update during game play OR update PB manually at their website. I could
be wrong..........hope it works.

The router probably is not the problem.

Cruddy punkbuster servers probably is.

Do this:

Get all the patches for the game, that's 1.61b (or 1.0, 1.6 patch, 1.61
patch and then the "b" patch). Install DC and DC final. (DC is a Mod, and
Final is an update to it.)

Then, at www.evenbalance.com get a copy of "pbweb.exe". This program
downloads the updates in HTML format and converts to DLL format for
PunkBuster. Put the file in your "pb" folder in the install, run the
program by double clicking. Wait. When it's done, log in and play.

You may have to do the punkbuster update periodically to keep it up-to-date,
but since the updates are not coming as quickly now that should not be a big
deal.
