So I've got some time to kill and I'm hanging around UC on my level 40
(shadow) priest. "LF3M SM Lib" - what the hey, it's a little XP and
something to do, so I volunteer. Didn't know if I'd get to actually
dps or heal, but I was prepared to do either. After getting the
invite I headed up the road to the stone - I'm *always* the first
person to arrive for any group it seems. The leader was still looking
for one more person, and the other 3 were all over the world. Ok, so
I pop shadowform and start killing the Scarlets outside for a little
cash. 15 minutes later we get our fifth person. At that point we've
got a warrior, paladin, mage, warlock, and little 'ol me. After
forever another one of them gets there so we can start summoning the
rest.

N00b1: "Who's healing?"
N00b2: "I'd say the priest."
N00b1: "Our priest appears to be shadow." ( I can only guess
shadowform showed on my group portrait, because I had dropped it before
anyone arrived)
Me: "I can heal just fine thanks."
N00b1: "Yeah I guess with you being a higher level you can get by."
Me: "I 3-manned this when I was 35, I'll be fine, believe me."

Now I thought it was silly for them to have such grave doubts about my
healing at such a low level but then it really got strange. The
warrior and pally both were dps specs! The warrior was dual wield and
the pally had a 2H. To his credit the pally did tank but with the 2H
"for better dps". No proper tank and these jokers were worried about
my offspec healing? TBH if it had been a competent group I could've
stayed shadowform and kept them all topped off with Vampiric Embrace,
but noooo... squishy tanks, massive accidental overpulling, VW
tanking too, and no waiting for mana made for a busy run on my part.
Funny thing is we completed the run faster than it took for the group
to get there, lol.

I really hate being the one who actually makes the trip. Granted, you
were in UC and were probably the closest at the time anyway. But I
hate getting into a group, heading to the meeting stone and being the
only person there. No one else bothered to stop what they were doing
to go to the meeting stone, why should I have to summon them when they
got to continue farming while I made the trip?

I also hate when I get invited to a group, then immediately promoted
to leader. I could understand if I was a tank, but I'm a warlock,
definitely not tanking material. They do it because they don't feel
like putting the group together themselves, and would rather focus
more on whatever else they are doing at the time. Either you want to
group or you don't, if you're too busy doing something else to make a
group then you are probably too busy to be part of the group too.

My favorite PuG's include people who never play your class but feel
that they know how you should play it. We had a priest screaming in SM
lib (popular place) about our pally tank before we even got into the
instance because the pally didnt have a huge amout of life. "You only
have 300 more life than me, how can you be the tank?", then I had to
proceed to eaplain to him that his damage mitigation most likely FAR
exceeded the priest. Since my main was a prot pally, and I had been
helping our tank on his toon, I wasn't completly oblivious about the
class and build. In our tanks defence, he held aggro and pulled any
mobs of the rest of the party. Since I was the ret speced pally (my
hoard alt) I was pretty much off tank and helped him out. Since the
whiny priest (shadow at that) kept trying to throw out DPS and heal it
was a pain in the ass. I ended up off tanking and off healing. It was
almost as annoying as the enchancement shammy who kept trying to tank.

Hehe gotta love some pugs. Guess at least you showed them you can heal
fine! Wink

I've had some bad luck on SL pugs the last few days, one had a really
really annoying guy in it who was just making snide comments all the time,
usually aimed at me, and really annoying me. Yeah I made some mistakes but
mainly down to being rather distracted by the hassle I was getting.
Eventually I snapped and told him to "stfu", at which point he sat down and
refused to take any further part in the fighting, eventually leaving the
group (yes, I did apologise for it, not that he was ever going to accept
it, frankly he acted like a spoilt kid half the time, though I realise I
didn't help by talking back). The run got a whole lot better after that...

Comedy moment was him whining at me not dispelling seduce on him, when at
the time I was kinda busy healing the tank whilst being hit by the mob he'd
claimed he could one-shot and was supposed to have done so at the start of
the pull (if he had done it would've been dead and not able to seduce him
in the first place)... the really amusing part being he was undead. WotF
anyone?

Another group I had was kinda the opposite, really nice people but not the
greatest players shall we say - 2 not massively high dps hunters (neither
of which was particularly adept at trapping so usually ended up offtanking
their mobs instead), and 2 warriors, the one which was dpsing doing very
low dps indeed, also sometimes offtanking spare mobs but in dps gear so
taking a lot of damage. And me, madly trying to keep everyone alive.

Yet, despite all that we cleared the place with only 2 wipes, one being a
mispull in Murmur's room and one being on Murmur himself (neither warrior
was very good at getting out of the boom fast and I couldn't heal both at
the same time) It actually ended up being a really good run, just rather
slow Wink Oh and Murmur still didn't drop the Hallowed Garments, sigh Razz

What the hey is wrong with dps spec for warrior? I'm sorry, but I tried an
arms/prot warrior, and it's BORING. But then maybe I'm used to D&D where
the Fighter is the main source of damage for the party, because you can't
always trust the Rogue to get into position, or that the mob won't save on
the Magic-User's spells...

I happen to like being able to dish out the damage _and_ take the hits, at
the same time.

I went through the same thing on my warlock. Any time I got into a
group I was expected to head to the instance, and could never expect
to be summoned myself. Then the fight was amongst the other 4 as to
who would go to the instance to help summon, and who would get to keep
on farming or questing until 2 more people got to the warlock (me) to
help summon. I saw arguments where someone who was in the same zone
as the instance refused to head to the instance to summon, saying they
were too busy to do it.

At least with Strat, there were a lot of non-elite mobs in the area
for me to kill while I waited for these people to sort everything
out. All the other level 60 dungeons either had no nearby mobs or
were surrounded by elites that I wasn't going to waste my time
soloing.

The way I see it, everyone in the group should at least make an
attempt to travel to the instance. The first 2 people there start
summoning, shortening the trip for the remaining 3.

There's nothing wrong with it - he was just pointing out that they
were complaining about him being off-spec for the job he was doing but
they didn't seem to mind that the tank was also off-spec for his job
too.

Going way, way back when I was still leveling my warlock and there
were no meeting stones, I was generally expected to be Johnny-on-the-
spot and get to the instance pronto. Being one of the more valueable
services a warlock could provide (this was back when warlocks were
