I’ve been away from gaming & Thief in particular for several years and
had opportunity recently to blow the dust off the Thief II CD’s. I have
Deadly Shadows somewhere but sadly can’t find the DVD now so can’t check
out the fan missions for it just yet.

I couldn’t get T2 to run on my original system; nVidia drivers I’m
assuming after a bit of research and I didn’t really feel like dumbing
them down. Gave my main work system a try though & it installed,
patched & ran perfectly. Even got DromEd to work tonight. Ran thru the
original missions on Expert level to come up to speed. (Hey, age &
memory loss have some advantages I guess to make it all seem new
again.) That, and Expert level has definite play differences from what
I do remember.

Anyway, seems there’s nearly 4 years of Thief II FM’s for me to check
out but very few have any sort of rating. I’ve snagged a few of the
more recent ones but was wondering if I could get some fan favorite
suggestions from the past 3-4 years. Must be a few of you grubbers
still lurking out there.

Thanks,

Mark

Wow! 3 or 4 YEARS! That's a lot of FMs. You'll be happily taffing away for
many months to come since there are still new ones coming out on a pretty
regular basis.

Have you played T2X? Yes, it was finally released. It's pretty much a new
game. It's 13 full missions with a new main character and a definite must
play. It's doesn't need Darkloader to install as it comes with it's own
built-in installer.

A definite "must play" is Ominous Bequest by Eshaktaar. It'll grab you right
from the beginning.

Lord Alan's Fortress and Lord Alan's Factory (which is has the most amazing
machinery you'll EVER see in an FM) by Lord Alan shouldn't be missed either.
The first one in the series, Lord Alan's Basement, isn't quite as impressive
but is still fun to play.

The Trickster's Gem Mine series by Belboz is another terrific set of
missions. You may have played the earlier ones, Dockland (T1) and Errand
Boy, as they are quite old but there were quite a few new ones released.
They include Making Tracks, Trickster's Gem Mine and Elsewhere, Chasm of the
Lost Pt. 1 & Pt. 2 plus he made a new training mission, Trickster's Gem Mine
Training mission.

Gaetane has a good series as well. The first one, L'Arsene, came out quite
awhile ago so you may have played it. Later released for the series were:
Emilie Victor, The Goblins (Les Korrigans) and The Den. They are all
excellent missions.

Madwolf's missions are really nice city ones, for the most part, that have
very nice architecture and are a lot of fun to explore. Moth to a Flame,
Skeletons in the Closet and Turn of the Tide.

Heist Society by Asylum (which was eventually finished up by a group of
other builders after Asylum abandonned it) is a fantastic mansion mission.
So are Transitions in Chaos Pt. 1: Conspiracies in the Dark by Ramirez's Old
Fat Burrick, and Sisterhood of Azura Pt. 2: The House by And (Used to be Ben
Hur).

Frobber finished up his "Keeper of the Prophecies" series and it was
outstanding. You can download the whole thing in one piece which includes
all 9 missions. All but the latest missions can still be found at
thiefmissions.com

If you like free-form, roaming streets and rooftop-type missions, try the
ones by uncadonego. His last couple have been in that style and very
enjoyable. His earlier missions, like Two Fathers, Time that Has Passed and
Mixed Messages are also fun and have a very strong story element. Not
everyone enjoys a lot of readables but if you do, these would suit you.

The Night Watch, by Fidcal, which is a series of 4 missions is very good,
though also very hard so again, doesn't suit everyone. The atmosphere and
storyline are good and there are several large threads at TTLG with hints to
help finish them if necessary. Considering it was a first release, it was
astounding. A Night in Rocksbourg Discovery and A Night in Rocksbourg A New
Beginning by Dr. K. are also full of fantastic atmosphere and have great
architecture but they are also a bit on the hard side, especially the first
one which is basically a key hunt. It has a lot more going for it though but
I'd suggest, if you decide to play it, you check out the thread on it at
TTLG where you'll find a list of key locations because they are not in
logical places and wandering around looking for them can kind of take the
fun out of the mission.

The Greyfeather Gems Pt. 1 & Pt. 2, by Morrgan are real gems, especially Pt.
2. Forgotten Forest 2 by Timon is also terrific but it's all undead as is
Dark Messiah by Schattengilde. A Pirate's Downfall by nicked and The Folly
of Youth by the_Dude are also excellent. Ohhh and don't forget the Dracula
series by Szabó Csaba which is 6 missions in all. (Mostly undead, of
course.) You can download it all in one package. That ought to be enough to
get started on, right? Smile

TTLG FM Forum.

Downloads are not all from one central site as they used to be because
thiefmissions.com is no longer being updated so you'll quite often find
download links in the release announcement threads. There are also quite a
few threads where people have been looking for suggestions for good FMs that
you might find interesting. The latest one is here:

Have fun!

Wow. Thanx for the detailed comments. I think those will keep me
occupied for some time.

I'm trying to snag T2X right now and I got the rest of the Lord Alan
series the other day.

I have played a few of the older ones you mentioned. Listing the author
with later missions is helpful on giving a better perspective than just
a mission title.

Found my old password info for ttlg so will do a bit of skulking around
over there as well.

Thanks again,

M.

Hey Doc,

I haven't played thief much recently and I am probably out of the loop with
the community as well. But, for myself, I cannot recommend anything that
Purah worked on HIGH ENOUGH! Anything that he was involved in was top notch!
Calendra's Cistern for example was awesome. I haven't played the sequel to
that but I heard it was great. That guy and the teams that he has worked
with are AWESOME!!!! I seem to remember they actually got a write up in a
gaming magazine for such high quality work. Anyway, that is my two
cents....now I'll have to go sneaking about in the shadows to make up for my
losses.

Take care,

Lord Sin

Thanks, I'll add that to the notes.

I'm working my way thru the T2X series now.
