Nice setup there. For my warrior, I've never chased Arena gear tbh so
I'm mostly PVE geared.
For spec-I choose Mitigation spec-i.e debuff a mob so that less dmg is
incomming to me or it's at least levelled off so that there aren't any
sudden spikes or bursts of dmg.
My toon is: http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Turalyon&n=Meiria
As for spec points: I sacrificed Imp. Heroic strike for Imp.
Thunderclap. Slower mob weapon swing = less dmg = more time for me to
throw up a parry if anything.
Imp Demo Shout and Cruelty for me in Fury tree. Imp. Demo Shout is
pretty great in terms of when you run into a crowd, throw it up and
everyone just automatically faces you. Throw on a Thunderclap (IF
there's no sheep/shackle) and you've pretty much gotten at least 5-7
seconds of the mobs attention, giving CC enough time to take effect.
Imp. Bloodrage - eh. No. 2 talent points for 6 more rage? Not worth
it. When you're tanking, as long as you're not suffering Rage
Starvation due to overgearing a fight, you'll pretty much have a
constant supply of rage. And trust me: you'll not notice a measly 6
points of rage, especially with Prot tree lowering the cost of all
your offensive abilities.
Tactical Mastery is good if you're a stance dancer. But personally,
with a good group for any heroic/raid-you'll practically never need to
do so unless you have mods/timers to show when a boss is going to AOE
fear etc. I've never needed to dance to Zerker to intercept an
incomming fear yet because my groups always had a tremor totem/fear
ward etc or I was able to pick everything back up before it chased the
party. I'm probably spoiled that way
I'd personally take those points out of Heroic Strike and put them
elsewhere. When tanking, you should be using a clear cut rotation so
that your rage is expended as fast as it comes. Directly quoted from
the Protection Warrior's Guide on elitistjerks.com - here are the
threat values of your abilities:
Battle Shout +69 (rank - divided amongst targets
Cleave +130 (rank 6) - divided amongst targets
Commanding Shout +68 - divided amongst targets
Demoralizing Shout +56 (rank 7) - divided amongst targets
Devastate +106 + [14 * Sunder Count] - Also applies Sunder Armor
threat when increasing the debuff stack
Disarm +104
Hamstring +181 (rank 4)
Heroic Strike +196 (rank 10)
Revenge +201 (rank
Improved Revenge (Stun) +25
Shield Bash +230 (rank 4)
Improved Shield Bash +??
Shield Slam +307 (rank 6)
Sunder Armor +301 (rank 6)
Taunt Sets threat equal to NPC's primary target
Thunder Clap Base threat is 1.75x damage done
If I choose to sit and answer every single question, I'd be doing the
work of the guide. It's located at: http://elitistjerks.com/f31/t18771-protection_warrior/.
Take a read and see if it can't tag you a few hints.
Oh and the Khorium Destroyer? Get. it. It'll be the finest tanking
ranged weapon you'll have for quite a while.
That 1H weapon needs to change though. I'd tell you go do the Grom'tor
questline in SMV but you're Ally and I don't know if Ally has an
equivalent to the 1H axe: Grom'tor's Charge.
You'd be better off running Heroic Mech > Panthaleon and getting The
Sun Eater, or if be: farm Chess event for a few weeks for King's
Defender. >> Stay informed about: Prot Warrior Advice |

Never had that happen to me really. Either the Locks go for the last
'umph' of DPS on runner mobs at the ending or we just outright rain it
in. Really, CoR is a rare thing to be seen, escept on mobs that
ultimately stun and flee at -20% or the fight is really gonna need a
bit upping on the boss DPS because the tank's gonna suffer Rage
Starve.

I understand this. Very good point. But seriously, I don't see two
talent points justifying this. Then again, it's all about YOU as the
tank, how fast you can throw up TPS and your group/raid's discipline
of '3 Sunders then DPS' or whatever your conditions are. I've run with
and without this ability as part of my spec and I frankly don't miss
it tbh. Most likely this is a spec point choosing of preference. Then
again: if it helps you do your job as a tank-best to you. As long as
the mob faces you and you alone, that's your goal.
>I almost find the elitistjerks website a little too elitist! It's all

When I started tanking, I had the 15 STR chant on my Gloves for a
little extra DPS > threat generated. I moved to the +2% Threat only
about 5 days ago and for ME, it's improved my TPS quite a bit
personally. If you're a Stam freak/Mitigation, go for the Armor Kit
that adds Stam to gloves. If you're breaking the 14k HP barrier
easily, 490 def rating and you're comfortable with it, take the 2%
threat. If you're below and you think you need those few HP points,
take the stam.
>The guild can reach the Chess event in a single evening I think that's

I'd expect that. 1.87% drop chance. I've had 38 runs to Heroic Mech
and killing Panth as of last night and STILL no Sun Eater. What always
hurts more is seeing mages and rogues showing it off. >_<
There's an average list of...decent tanking 1H lying around but I
can't seem to find it anywhere. It's SOMEWHERE on wowhead... But what
I've heard if you can't get the Sun Eater to drop or King's Defender -
you can try the Ally/Horde faction equivalent from Thrallmar or Honor
Hold:
- Honor's Call - http://www.wowhead.com/?item=29156 or
- Warbringer - http://www.wowhead.com/?item=29165
Requires Revered with Thrallmar or HH obviously. And you're still
Honored so that would be one very unkind grind. >> Stay informed about: Prot Warrior Advice |

I've personally not run into the starvation issue overly often except
on caster mobs, which usually I have a Shield Reflect aimed at them.
But this is understandable, especially in situations like tanking
those caster skellys at the entrance to the Opera Event road in Kara.
Well timed SF's will prevent you from taking overloading dmg but at
the same time: slowing rage.

Hence I go for my mitigation spec. I've checked my Grim Reaper and
definitely, I have seen an improvement with all the incomming damage.
Brian's got great forward points on points spent on Imp Demo VS Imp.
Bloodrage and I won't discredit that. But personally, for me: I make
things easy on my healers as far as I can stretch it. My goal's to
hold the mob, not die. And Plate's expensive. Good points all
around but I see it as a personal choice. And it's good holder threat
right off the bat imo. And yes, the INITIAL threat isn't all that
great, we can only hope we get a little buff to extra threat with it
for speccing the Imp. versions right?

Yup, that is the recommended TPS startup there. SS right off the bat
and you've definitely got the mob's attention.

1.87% droprate as stated. 38 runs counted. I've seen Panth EVERY night
I logon and still no dice. Sad to see so many of the D3 pieces being
sharded though. But hey, shards are good. I'll have enough to get a
Mongoose the minute it drops! >> Stay informed about: Prot Warrior Advice |

Agreed! For tanking heroics and Karazhan it's a big help, especially if
you're lucky with the dodges, parries, etc (or unlucky depending on how
you look at it) and are rage-starved for a good chunk of time.
When tanking 25-man raid bosses, you will no longer have this option
since there are other priorities in the Prot tree.
> I think I'll give imp demo shout a go though since as you say it'll

The threat from demo shout whether improved or not is still paper-thin,
but where it helps is with nerfing all that incoming damage, especially
on big pulls, so the healers can be slower and less likely to peel mobs
off you. It also helps on long boss fights where mana and health are on
a razor-thin margin and success or failure depend on it.

That looks perfect to me. I haven't seen a better general TPS rotation.
If there's a lot of melee and/or hunters I may concentrate on Devastate
at the beginning of a fight to debuff armor asap.

Yep, that Chess chest is the best and easiest source of your tanking
weapon. The Sun Eater is far more difficult to farm in my experience. >> Stay informed about: Prot Warrior Advice |

Yep, "it depends". The way I see it, if you're running heroics all the
time especially with PUGs the Improved Bloodrage is a huge plus. The
pulls are quick, the mobs die relatively fast, and being able to pop
that extra rage and threat at the start of every pull helps everything
move more smoothly and serves as a hedge against undisciplined PUG
DPS'ers. In 25-man raids by contrast the fights are long, the mobs and
bosses hit very hard, and Imp Bloodrage gives you a very slim advantage.
Also you're undoubtedly in a guild where the read leader (or you) can
yell at the morons that start DPS too early. You'll want those extra
two talents for something else like Imp Defensive Stance for lengthy
boss fights. In Kara it's kind of a middle ground, just depends on how
you weigh the advantage.

The threat enchant is tops for a raid tank for sure, but the mats are
steep too. I'm waiting for some T5 or similar gloves before I splurge,
and I'm just an off-tank these days anyhow so meh. Maybe the +12 agi is
just fine. >> Stay informed about: Prot Warrior Advice |

Yes, you will notice a measly 6 points of rage, and you'll notice it more

Coupled with those rage-reduction talents, Imp. Bloodrage means you
generate enough rage on pulling to immediately Shield Slam, which is your
best-scaling aggro generator. >> Stay informed about: Prot Warrior Advice |

Yeah, I know, which is why more than 2 points in Imp. Demo is wasted.
Mobs just don't have that much AP, and 2 points is enough to reduce it to
zero.

But you do see three more than needed on Imp. Demo being useful?

Best tankpoint-rating in a gloves enchant is +15 agi. It's 30 armor,
about half a point of crit, and half a % dodge.

Grom'tor's Charge comes from the Cipher of Damnation Chain in SMV, and is
considerably better for mitigation and stamina, but those are better
aggro-generators. Mine swings Fireguard for the time being, until he gets
Sun-Eater. >> Stay informed about: Prot Warrior Advice |

Loooot!
The Pirates cleared Opera up to and including Prince last night (first
time to down him!) and it was a bit of a loot bonanza for me, the Wyrm
Greaves from Curator dropped (though not a HUGE upgrade the Felsteel
Leggings), Gilded Cloak from Illhoof and the one-hander from the Chess
Event! I should have my Destroyer gun today also. That's a lot of
enchants and gems... WTS [Left Kidney]!
My aim now is to get the chest piece and the auto-blocker trinket from
the badges vendor, and probably the necklace too since Maiden won't
ever bloody drop hers. I guess we'll be trying ZA at some stage once
we've farmed Kara a bit but we won't be near the 25mans so I may be
reaching my max level of loots. Sure we'll all be wearing level 73
greens in no time anyway!
I hadn't considered +AGI but I think a guildie can do it so I'll weigh
up the cost of mats
I think I'll stick with Imp Bloodrage then for the time being and grab
Imp Demoralizing Shout from level 71 onwards ;o)
Goodluck on the Sun Eater drop evankimori

Congrats on downing Prince. For any guild this is a prized first
kill.
I tanked him for our guild on their first kill and i remember how much
of a pain the encounter is.
I just checked your gear and tbh its good enough. With 16k armor you
should be able to afford your healers and dps a bit of breathing room
but i would certainly try and up your HP now to give you that extra
cushion for a crushing blow..
Now you have downed prince once you can look forward to doing it again
and again but more importantly you can work your way to summoning
Nightbane. Now there is a challenge !! (enjoy trying the quest chain
to get the summoning pot) I hope you are also looking at netherspite
who we found more technically challenging than prince.
Still plenty of challenges ahead of you..
as for heroic badges - if i were you i would look to farm them from
kara and heroics and 1) get the autoblocker and 2) get the chest piece
(its going to be a while before you down nightbane or progress through
Zul Aman). Two items of T4 is very useful and i have been using the
same 2 for a while and we are now progressing quite happily through
The Eye and SSC.
Enjoy the gear drops, as you get better gear the instances seem to
flow much better..

Oh you bastard! There is no justice in the World!...of Warcraft!
But wow. Took us 4 weeks just to get the two guild MT's that damn
King's Defender, much less Mallet Of The Tides when we started SSC. As
one of the OT's I'm still waiting on my turn.
Very well done and a huge congrats! ..still jealous though...Oh, and
if you're still wondering on the whole 'uncrushable' rating-492 to
495's slated at the 'Ok. You're safe now.' rating. Just FYI.

The chest is so worth it. I just bought my Auto-Blocker a week ago and
I'm still paying through the nose for badges to add up for my Chest
since every time we do Nightbane, he's loving the casters more and
more. >> Stay informed about: Prot Warrior Advice |
