Hi folks!

I'm playing a great older mod called "The Prophet - Chapter 1", and I'm
enjoying it so far.

I'm also stuck in a certain spot rather early on in the game, so if any of
you have played this, I could use some help finding the pivotal henchman
Merudoc.

Merudoc follows Jeniki into the doorway, Llarien and I follow, we encounter
the 6 villagers, enter the cave, find the skull, unlock the bridge-gate, and
[sigh] there is no Merudoc waiting. What did I do wrong, or forget to do?

I appreciate any clues/hints/tips/advice, and thanks in advance!

Is this the one put out by Balecaran in 2006 or so? Haven't played
it, but i might download it this weekend (site is blocked at work).

Hello, and yes indeed, that's the one. Thanks in advance!
(ps...he recommends playing the short "Prologue" mod first though.)

Turns out I had downloaded this a while back, just never got around to
playing. Started this weekend and played a bit.
The halfling? He should be in the Inn right when you start; but from
what you say below, I may be misunderstanding.

Neil, I'm not sure where you are - you might be ahead of me yet.
Llarien is the elf you find in the forest, fighting the bandits? (I'm
terrible with names....). I don't recall anyone named Jeniki yet, but
I just got to the elven homes in the trees and am about to enter the
"old forest"... Is that about where you're at?

Hi!
Thanks for trying to help...

Yes, I'm much farther along in the story than you are, so you haven't
reached the area yet where all this occurs!
Sorry I didn't explain better, but I'm glad my plea for help got you
thinking about playing it again. <g>

Have fun, and I hope you don't run into the same problem later on in the
game!

I just re-read your reply, and now I'm confused... I have *not* reached the
part of the game with Elven homes or forests, so you must be farther ahead
than me after all!

The area where I'm stuck is called "Herud's Hell". There is an option to
simply leave, but I chose the other - to follow (the Halfling henchman)
Merudoc through some shame & guilt memories of his Norenshire massacre.

This is a quote from the readme.txt:
.............................
Whether or not you learn where to seek information about the prophet-king,
you will first have to leave Herud's hell. The easiest way is to go back the
way you came, but if you are curious, then continue going counter-clockwise.
If Merudoc is with you, you will be allowed to enter some rooms which
contain memories of Norenshire. There you will see a Halfling girl named
Jeniki, who will run away into a dark hallway. Merudoc will follow, leaving
your group. Run after him!

Following Merudoc will lead you into a vision of destroyed Norenshire.
There, you will encounter undead spirits of some of the dead Halflings, whom
you must defeat or avoid. Be careful, when you pass near the well, any
defeated spirits will rise once more. Stay away from the Halfling homes
themselves, and follow the footprints into a dark cave. Once in the cave, go
left to find a small skull. This is a key which unlocks a gate on a bridge.
Keep going and you will find Merudoc. Convince him to come with you, and you
will be teleported back into the hell of shame and remorse. Now, you can
continue going counter-clockwise to the room where you entered. Look south,
the gateway is now open and you can return to the castle crypt.
......................

Thanks again, hope this helps!

It's almost like we're playing two different games... maybe I missed
an entire quest? or took a right when you went left Smile

***spoilers***

I played the prelude, which - when it ended, opened up the next module
in the Innn, wheere Merudoc runs up and joins. The only quest in the
initial area was in the cave to the NE, where the couple's son
(Samar?) went missing.

The only option I saw was to go east through the forest, where I
explored the haunted castle (king's widow's ghost), ran across
Llarien, who pointed me (south, I think) through to the Black Swamp,
leading eventally to the elven homes in the trees and the sage (who
was the Urlord's friend). I don't recall for sure, but there might
have been the option to go a different direction at that point?

I missed the readme... I seem to be doing that lately Sad

Found the walk-through... it appears something didn't fire. When I
looted Herud's corpse, I didn't see his ghost, so I just left the
area. I'm going to go back to the castle and see if I just missed the
ghost.

I might have an older version of the mod - the mine area isn't
available in the one I'm playing, just downloaded the mod again.
We'll see what happens.

I just read both of your replies, and it sure seems like we *were* playing 2
different games!
Of course, it was just 2 diff versions, but now I see why my original
question didn't make sense.

Enjoy the new version, have fun, and I'll check back here occasionally to
see if you (or anyone else reading) have discovered any arcane secrets! <g>

I was defiinitely playing an older version... the Lohim Mines in the
first game I was playing just had a note that the area was under
construction.

Finished Chapt 1, it's a great story and I'm glad you posted about it,
because I also "finished" the older version and was kinda confused
(the newer version makes much more sense). I could see this module
working as a book... there is so much detail and a great story.

As for the missing Merudoc: I'm sure that there is a way to spawn
Merudoc in the cave - he appeared for me and I didn't do anything
different than you did (enter the cave, and he was immediately visible
behind the locked gates at a distance). Unfortunately, I don't know
anything about the toolset or how to do this.

On the plus side, Merudoc is not critical until near the end of Chapt
1 and it's clear from the conversation that if you've told Merudoc to
hold his ground, or dismissed him as a henchman (or never took him to
begin with) that Merudoc will spawn in at the critical moment (or at
least _should_ spawn in)

So you could continue playing from where you are and not really miss
anything (Merudoc makes some comments about what a wonderful place the
elven tree homes are, and you also have a dream about Merudoc, which
can open a conversation with him - but is not critical, as you can
also have a seperate converstation with the elf ranger/cleric Lallieo
or whatever his name is)

*** minor spoiler ***

*spoiler space**

*spoiler space**

For extra fun, raise Merudoc after his death in the chamber of the
Urlord. Not sure what happens if you don't raise him, as I did it
just for kicks and didn't save the game before. Interesting that there
was something scripted for that.

Thanks for all that info! I just posted a separate reply to this thread
before reading this one, so I'm happy to report "Success!" Smile It was all
because I had Merudoc set on "stealthy"...

Glad you finished and enjoyed it as well!

Just a quick note to let you know that I finished the game. Wow, I had no
idea there was so much more to it!
I wasn't even halfway through when I first posted about my
invisible(stealthed) Merudoc problem, and playing the rest of the mod was
amazing. I hope anyone reading this will give it try, it was an excellent
adventure!

|
|
|
|
|
|
|

|
| For extra fun, raise Merudoc after his death in the chamber of the
| Urlord. Not sure what happens if you don't raise him, as I did it
| just for kicks and didn't save the game before. Interesting that there
| was something scripted for that.

It truly is a fantastic story and a well done module, very visually
appealing as well. Glad you finished it and recommended it (in a way,
glad you had the problem as I probably wouldn't have noticed I had an
older version!). Thanks for the recommendation on this, I enjoyed my
time playing.

I noticed the updated version wasn't all _that_ old ( a year or two?)
so I'm hopeful the next chapter will appear soon. it's a great story.
