Profile name question

Just started playing RTCW... great game!

Question: I read that when you create a profile in
Return to Castle Wolfenstein on the Xbox that it uses
that name for the box "name" in games like Halo
(system linking). Mine didn't change... Someone also
mentioned setting the "nickname" you use in RTCW.
Is the profile name the same as the nickname?
Do I need to be on xbox live or system link with
RTCW to change the name?
