Hi, could someone please help? I assumed the xbox 360 played DVDs in 480p? I
have my 360 connected to my HD TV using the official component lead with the
switch set to HD. When playing games my TV displays correctly 480p, 720p and
1080i with no problems. However if I try and play back a DVD the picture is
not displayed correctly and is unwatchable. Information on the TV screen
appears to indicate that the DVD is being played back at 570p and not 480p
as expected. The only way round this problem is for me to slide the switch
from the HD to the TV position when I want to play a DVD which is a pain.
Have I a fault or is this normal?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't 576P the u.k. standard? Where was
your xbox 360 purchased, are you playing a north-american or international
dvd? Is there some sort of setting on the 360 that allows you to change
regions? I don't actually have a 360, but those are the things I would look
into if I was in your situation

He is talking about the HD switch which is on the Xbox 360 component cable.
I'm not sure what problem he is having. On my Hitachi LCD it says the 360 is
playing back in 720X480 which would be 480p in widescreen mode and it looks
fantastic playing back DVD material.

I am using a uk 360 and the picture is split vertically into two halves of
the screen and appears to be playing back in 570p which I now understand to
be the normal pal output. I am beginning to wonder whether it is my TV
although it does display my games in 480p, 720p and 1080i with no problems.
