Greets,

I fear this is a really dumb question but for the life of me, I can't
figure this problem out.

Installed MAME and downloaded a number of ROMs from various sites I
could find. From the command line I went to run mame.exe [filename]
but ...which one is the filename? One game has nothing but a .smc file
in it (but that didn't work, mame.exe complained about missing files).
Another directory (for the game "Outfoxies") contains:

ou1dat0.20a
ou1dat1.20b
ou2obj0l
ou2obj0u
[etc.]

....and none of these files stick out as the one I'm supposed to name on
the command line and none are named .smc.

OK, so I install mame32 which has a nice front-end, try to run the same
programs but they all fail. I've tried about six games so far with the
same results; either there is no .smc or there *is* but running that
file kicks back errors.

So am I doing something wrong or are all these downloads bogus? If the
answer is #2, can anyone suggest where to find bona fide ROMs?

Thanks much in advance,
Jason

Cheers for the very quick reply but that didn't fix it.

C:\Program Files\mame>mame c:\program files\mame32\roms\outfxies.zip
ou2mprl.11c NOT FOUND
ou2mpru.11d NOT FOUND
ou1spr0.5b NOT FOUND
[etc.]

When I look in the outfxies.zip file, the files that MAME is
complaining about *are* there and they have a filesize (512KB each).

Any ideas?

Thanks again,
Jason

When you download a game, dont unzip it.
Example: download pacman.zip and plae it in the mame\roms directory.
The command to run it would be mame.exe pacman

Im not sure?
Are you runing mame from a dos command box?
If you have mame32, try double clicking on mame32.exe, see if it is in the
list of games. (you can also run the game from teh mame32 frontend.)

Or, from a command box try this: (you may aslo change to directory mame is
in).
C:\Program Files\mame>mame outfixes
If you are using mame32, you may need this command:
C:\Program Files\mame>mame32 outfixes

Just

mame defender

Don't give the full path or the file extension (though under Linux it
doesn't hurt, but I can't tell under Windows).

Try other files.

mame pacman ( a tricky one as it needs tow roms at least, or one merges
as found on my web page, see signature).

mame pooyan.

Or get Linux. Wink

The don't-unzip-it method worked. Thanks to everyone who replied.

..smc files are SNES ROMs. ZSNES (http://www.zsnes.com/) is my fave
emulator for those.
