I'm trying to load an old version of Microsoft Entertainment Gamepack on a
new pc which runs Windows xp, for my wife. She has played a solataire game
called "Cruel" for many years on her old pc and would like to save the "game
counter" statistic on this new pc.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to do this?

Good question.

I'd like to help. Not sure if I can but will give it a try.

I would start by looking through all the files in the directory, and maybe
elsewhere. Hopefully someone can give you an idea of where to look. I've
been in a similar situation. What I did was install the game on the new
harddrive, then copied all the files from the games directory on the old
harddrive onto the new one... Just let it overwrite everything. Although I
cannot remember exactly if it worked or not Wink
It should, though. If it did not, that means there must be another place the
game is storing files on the harddrive.

Thanks for your thoughts. I've tried loading and copying from the old hard
drive, but for some reason, everything but the statistics copy. I believe
they are in a file "util.dll" and when I open that file, there are so many
command lines with strange characters that I don't want to take a chance
changing any of the commancs and messing up the file completely.
Particularly since I have very limited programming experience. If the
characters were easier to read, I might take a chance, but they're not.

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Have you tried emailing support for this answer? However, there is a good
chance it would not even be worth your time.

Do you think it might be a file in the registry?

I do not see any reason to manually edit anything. Have you already
installed the game on the new computer? If so, why not just copy the file
that you think holds the stats that you need over to the new harddrive and
overwrite the one that is already in there. You really do not have much to
lose since it is a new installation and if anything goes wrong you can just
re-install.

As long as you don't edit/damage/lose the file on with the stats you want to
transfer over, there is not much to worry about.

Hope this helps.
