Food for a pet ghoul - I happened to have a pet ghoul in my current game and noticed that these creatures eat all monster corpses of their age, even rotten ones, corpses from zombies, etc. Nice, there are still some new details for me to discover in Nethack. 8-) ..

Strange thing just happenned...
You faint from the lack of food.
You regain consciousness.
You begin praying to Thoth.
You are surrounded by a shimmering light.
You hear rumbling in the distance.
You finidh your prayer.
You feel that Thoth is satisfied.
You faint from the lack of food.
You regain consciousness.
How come the prayer was successful (Thoth satisfied) but I wasn't fed ?
I had no other troubles at the time (no cursed amulet of strangulation, or
anything else cursed, HP at max).

My guess from my interpretation of the spoiler:
Given that you had only one Major Problem = "hunger status 'weak' or
worse", and assuming you were a neutral Wizard, my guess would be that
you had an alignment of 0 and therefore when you prayed you only had a
50% chance of fixing your Major Problem.
(I confess that I think the explanation for low alignment/low luck
prayer resuts are a little confusing in the spoiler so maybe I'm

Were you, perchance, playing a pacifist?
Many characters start with an alignment score of zero; pacifism removes
the most straightforward mechanism for improving it.

Yep, that's more or less what I suspected afterwards...
I was not pacifist, but it was early game and I had let my pet do most
(all ?) of the job because, well, wizards are not the best at killing
stuff...
I thought that food prayer was almost automatic... next time I'll try to
kill a few thing in early game
