According to a documentary I watched on the subject, the people who use
this type of service are: people who don't have as much time to play but
want to adventure with their higher level friends (late joiners); people
who don't want to play the lower orientation levels and want a bit of a
head start (instant gratification); and people who feel they must have
all the coolest gear (even if they don't earn it the way others have).
They also tend to be people with more money than time on their hands --
a busy executive ... as opposed to a student or unemployed person with
more time than money.
Like most others, I personally can't fathom doing this myself. I have
never known anyone who has done this. In game, I would think it would be
very obvious if a character has better loot than the player's skills or
level would otherwise indicate.
It's got to be hella boring to be a gold farmer earning these coins in a
dull, repetitive way only to sell them off. But I suppose I'd rather do
that than toil in a field or be unemployed in a bleak economy.
