Given that the noise coming from my X360 charging the controller whilst
its in standby is quite annoying, can I use my iPod AC charger to
recharge it without damaging the battery pack, or stuff blowing up in
general?

I think you can charge it from most USB ports. The ones on your PC will do.

Just buy the QUICK CHARGER. It's fast, it's easy, and it charges TWO
batteries at a time.
