Just spent a relaxing week in Ocean City, NJ with the family. Most of
the boardwalk pins I saw (maybe a dozen) were not working right or out
of order completely. Pretty sad.
One highlight of the trip was going to a cool Stewart's restaurant in
Northfield, NJ (807 Tilton Road. Just off exit 36 of the Garden State
Parkway.) Stewart's root beer has been around I think since the 20's or
30's and is well-known here in the east.
The restaurant is about 10 miles from Ocean City and not far from
Atlantic City either. It's owned by Ken Schaffer, a long time coin-op
and pop culture memorabilia collector...and friend. He and his partner
have done a great job with the restaurant. Has a real vintage feel
using much of Ken's personal collection. Lots of neon, there are
multiple train layouts throughout the building with moving cars.
Included are several vintage pins which he rotates from time to time
and other games...The pins I remember... Kiss, Eight Ball, a Star Wars
title, A 90's Williams Pitch and Bat and a few other are lined up and
working well. There was an old 50's Seeburg jukebox near the front
entrance. Sorry...I can't remember everything. (They even had a classic
car meet there last night...something they do certain fridays during
the season.)
If you are in the area, stop in and bring the family. The food is great
and reasonably priced. Burgers, chicken, shakes, floats...all the
important food groups. And bring lots of quarters.
