Okay, this might be easy or it might not - I've tried to research via Google
but not got very far at all.

An old gaming acquaintance and I want to play some games across our
broadband connections that we used to play on dial-up.. things like Duke
Nukem 3D and Red Alert as well as others. Obviously these games don't have
broadband multiplayer options built in, even if we can get them running on
Windows XP anyway, so is there a way we can still play them?

I've found individual programs for DN3D at least but the multiplayer on all
those seems broken or at least WIP. I also found Kali but that only seems
to run the vanilla version of Duke 3D and I need to run a Winlauncher for it
so I can play in XP at all.

Is there therefore a program that will emulate a null modem cable, serial
link or IPX/SPX connection directly between our two PCs using only our IP
addresses so that we can play these old games?

All help very much appreciated..

Aha, I had actually found that on my initial searching but couldn't get it
working as I didn't think it worked over the internet. Clearly I am
somewhat stupid.. (you aren't allowed this to get back to UGVM though)

Crosspost ahoy! Smile

I'm sure there was work on an Xlink-a-like for DOS at some point to do this
kind of thing - maybe an addon for DOSBox or bochs. If not, WHY NOT?

Yes but I couldn't get it working on my XP SP2 machine. Fortunately I
downloaded it a day before that site went down - I haven't been able to
access it either. As long as the servers stay up it'll be fine to use it.
In the end I had to install Win 98 SE to dual boot (after XP, thanks
Partition Magic!) and run it from there.

Come on Kali, stay up..
