Post subject: Petting Zoo Five - Update #30 Report
Archived from groups: rec>games>empire (more info?)

We are now 30 updates into PZ5. Of the initial 9 countries, 5 remain.
Two more countries have fallen since my last report, the first being
Dorsai!, who renamed himself as game_over upon getting overrun then
sacked by Thistle. Then LaCucaracha invaded and sacked Aquitaine's
capital. Then shortly before update #27, LaCucaracha announced and
declared itself the winner of PZ5. This was not well met, as shortly
thereafter, just about all viable countries in PZ5 contested the win.
We are now in a 'king of the hill' scenario in PZ5.

Players are able to build a lot of Jets and Ships and Units. Nukes are
very soon to be available (there is a tech 155 nuke in PZ5, slightly
better than the standard 10kt). However, players can sleep peacefully,
as 2am harbors are disabled (we are experimenting with engineers who do
not have the light flag, thus then cannot roll off of a landing ship with
positive mobility when they hit the beach).

Another interesting note, is that we just had the first ever 'Global NA'.
Apparently LaCucaracha thought it was more important to spend time with
the family over the Easter 2006 holiday than man his country, and proposed
this Global NA idea, and peeps bought into it. Slackers...

The PZ5 9-country game on a 144x72 map is running with 4.3.0 code after 30
updates on a 366MHz Celeron Win2K system. Updates are processing in approx
6 seconds, and server.exe is currently using 8736K of 66MHz CL3 SDRAM,
with a peak memory utilization of 9604KB. The application 'server.exe'
has used under 55 minutes of CPU time over the past 15 days. As far as
network bandwith to the sheepfarm (dedicated computer just for empire)
server is concerned, 656628 packets sent, 514748 packets received over
the past 15 days. IE: not a lot of computer or net bandwidth is required
to run the best war game, ever.

Here's our current status:
