During the weekend my Paladin (Alliance, Level 67)) finally managed to
complete the epic mount quest. I had bought the riding skill with level
60 already, but always wanted to finish the quest. Finding groups on my
server is very difficult, the guild was slowly disbanding and I couldn't
find anyone willing to help, so I did it all solo.
Strat was easy, did it with level 65 for the holy water. Dire Maul with
Level 66, again no problem. This weekend I finally got a Pristine Black
Diamond from the AH and went to Scholo. I didn't really plan to finish
the quest, just wanted to look if I could get down Rattlegore.
Rattlegore turned out to be pretty easy for my prot pala and while I was
down there anyway I decided to start the ritual and look how hard it is.
It's hard, but not impossible! After the third wave I ran out of food
and when I had to fight the knight there were no potions left. LoH and
the bubble + bandage saved me, but it was a very close fight. I even got
several XP there, as most mobs were still green for me.
I assume it's a piece of cake at level 70, at least for protection
paladins. So all those Palas out there who can't find a group that will
help you - give it a shot and try to solo it! >> Stay informed about: Pala Epic Mount Quest |

Nice one! My pally finally got it done with help from a couple of
friends but it took some time to get there, maybe I should've just
levelled and soloed it

Excellent work. I had the help of my guild in this at lvl 61, and have
since helped several others through it. I needed help in Strat, DM,
and Scholo, but soloed the rest.
Its a very satisfying feeling to finally mount up and ride away from
Scholo at 200%+ speed.

That sounds promising. My pally is at 61 now and I have a raiding mage
friend who will help me once I get the cash saved up to start in earnest.

I have similar problems in getting a group to sort parts of this quest
out, but it seems like the costs involved are about on a par with just
buying a mount anyway. I'd like to do the quest, but the difficulties
involved in mustering people + the cost means the effort isn't worth
it.

When you just look at the money and depending on your server it might be
even cheaper to just buy a normal mount and the riding skill. My Paladin
had done this before, but I still wanted to have his class mount - after
all it's something special, looks nice and does save bag space.
My warlock is still looking for a group for the final part of his quest.
He is exalted with all alliance factions and has all the regular mounts,
including an Elekk, yet I still want the Dreadsteed. Someday I'll find a
group - or I'll solo it at level 80, lol.

And since the horse doesn't scale to the character riding it, my
Draenei pally looks like she's riding a pony to a fancy dress party
for horses.

Are you sure about that? I'm fairly sure that the opposite is true
for Kodos - those ridden by undead characters look much smaller than
those ridden by Taurens.
Also, I got the impression that Nick was specifically referring to the
Paladin mounts not scaling rather than all mounts.

It's certainly true for Gnomes - their mounts are bigger than other
alliance races. Not sure how it works with Taurens.

The mounts do scale to the character riding it, but not in the way you
are wishing for. The model has a set size and small characters riding a
horse will get a bigger horse, while big characters get an even smaller one.
You can see this very clearly with gnomes. My gnome has an elekk and
it's far bigger than when an Draenei is riding one.

Yep, tauren mounts scale up, and other horde races scale down (but are
all much the same size anyway, orc mounts are slightly larger than
undead/belf)
But gnome mounts definitely scale up the most of alliance races - when
my human warlock helped a gnome friend get his epic mount, the gnome had
the larger mount of us!
>Also, I got the impression that Nick was specifically referring to the

My thought is that all mounts *do* scale but it's not a straight
"smaller characters get bigger mounts" thing, or if it is, it's reversed
on Horde. Just hang out in Orgrimmar for a bit looking at the size of
the mounts the Tauren ride and you'll see the point; they're usually
huge! I agree the draenei looks daft on a paladin mount but I'm assuming
that's a male draenei? They look daft on most things that aren't elekks
(just like the tauren do); the female draenei should look fine on the
pally horse, certainly mine looks great on her talbuk.

My Horde chars never reached level 40, so I can only speak for alliance.
The mounts scale with gnomes and dwarfs. The ram my dwarf is riding is
bigger than the ram my human has.
It's most obvious for gnomes, you can clearly see the difference. EoTS
is a good battleground to compare it, as the players are located in a
small space.
> Also, I got the impression that Nick was specifically referring to the

I have never seen a draenei paladin with a class mount on my server, so
I've never had a chance to compare it directly. I've compared the
warlock horses and those scale like all the other mounts so I assume
it's the same with the paladin horse.
His horse would be even small than the normal one because of the big
size of male Draenei.
