Crossposting just because there's not enough on-topic stuff on RGVS...

Now that I've had a change to play Phantasy Star Online episode III, I
understand both the praise and the criticism for the thing. However,
there's been something bothering me about the game since I started
playing, and I finally figured out what it is.

Does anybody think that this game was originally developed for a portable
system, or maybe even a cell phone? The more I play, the more I think that
the general game engine was built from the ground up for a handheld, and
that somebody along the way liked it so much that they coded a big,
unnecessary 3D Gamecube interface for what ended up being a nice little
card game. Alternately, I guess it's possible that WAP-based cell phone
connections or Gameboy link cables lost out when compared to the Ethernet
interface (and established userbase) of the Gamecube.

Interested to know if there's any evidence for or against my big, empty
speculation here. More to the point, I'm interested to know if a portable
version of the game is sitting around on the drawing board, or finished
and unreleased. If I can't play the real PSO in the middle of a corn
field, I can have the next best thing, right? Smile

-KKC, who can't decide whether or not to buy that Demon Stone game.
