Given our manufacturing capabilities, I am just curious if there is a
way to determine how many SPE's are functioning on our systems. I under
stand that 6 functioning SPE's is considered acceptable with 1 for system
security and the last for...???

Thanks in advance...

The cell is built with 8 SPE's. With the current state of production,
the chips yielded do not always have 8 of the SPE's in working order.
If all 8 are working, then the chip is reserved for use in high-end
servers and workstations. If 7 are working, then the chip is used in
the PS3. If fewer than 7 are working, I'm not sure if they have a use
for them or not. The SPE's will not individually fail after production,
they will continue to work unless the entire chip's life ends
(meltdown, physical damage to the chip).
