I don't want to start any flame war or anything but I just wondered if
anyone can tell me just a few pro's and con's of each of these three
games systems in comparison to each other between the PS3, XBOX 360
and Wii? And what your preference is if you had to choose just only
one of them.

Make separate posts to each group and ask what they like about the
system. Be more specific in your needs. what kind of games you like. Do
you have kids? will they be playing with it also? Do you need BluRay, do
you care if the system can play DVDs, etc.

Xbox 360 - Most games, best games.
PS3 - Good hardware, weak library. Most of the games worth playing are
ports of 360 games.
Wii - Utter garbage. Worst selection, worst games. Only fit for 10
year olds and girls.

I disagree with the first and last points about the Wii. While the Wii
takes the cake for sheer tonnage of shovelware made for it, I have to
say that certain games (e.g. golf, bowling, baseball) are a helluva
lot of fun because the Wiimote works well with them. And it is the
most accessible console...my in-laws were just over and had lots of
fun with Wii Bowling, for instance. They would never even consider
touching my 360 or PS3 with a 10ft pole. But I do agree that it does
have the worst selection of games, no question about it. >> Stay informed about: PS3 v XBOX 360 v Wii |

You are completely wrong. I have asked in all three groups because I
want and value the opinion of people who use all these systems I don't
just want the opinion of a group of people who just use one system.
I've not done a google search because I want the opinion of people
using the systems not product specs marketing hype and searching
endless pages of reviews.
** I don't have any of these consoles **
I am just interested in knowing what you think are a few pro's and a
few con's to the system you have, whether that's PS3, Xbox360 or Wii.
Thanks,

No, I am not. If you were really that curious I am sure you could figure
out that this question sis asked almost daily. You know how to use
google?

I gave you the solution to that issue above, you ignored it.

You can search Usenet ONLY via google and wont see any of the above via
http://groups.google.com and you've still not even said what you are
looking for in a console which makes your request impossible to answer.
Weather or not you believe your question to be troll bait, it is and you
could have easily got your opinions without starting a crossposted flame

Yeah, we all got that part.

Use google, it is discussed ad adinfinitum in these groups.

Wii Sports is fun... For the 2 to 4 hours it takes to finish it. After
that it never gets played again.

And therein lies the problem... The Wii is a game system for people
who hate game systems.
I hate poker, in all forms. Will someone please spend millions of
dollars making a poker game for people who hate poker? Thanks! Then
make sure that this version of poker becomes the dominate form of
poker everywhere you go. That would be great! I'd never have to see
"real" poker ever again! Just the form that's especially made for
people who hate "real" poker and would never actually play it.

It's all about the games really. What games are you looking to play?
The Wii has mostly party games with a few single player games sprinkled
throughout. Plus it has the Mario series, Metroid series, Zelda series, etc
etc. The controls are unique and sometimes fun, and the system in general
is for all around gaming. People may complain that the graphics aren't up
to par, but really how good of graphics do you need? Online play also, but
depends on the game and is quite limited to who you "friend" with (i.e. need
to exchange "friend codes" to play with each other usually).
The PS3 is the powerhouse for those that demand graphics and more graphics.
I'm not familiar with many games or it's control style. I suppose if you
just want something equivalent to a powerful modern computer to play games
then that'd be your choice. Also I hear it's a good Blu-Ray player, but my
experience in the past with Playstations movie capabilities is that playing
movies tends to ruin the system (or perhaps it's just my experience, my
first PS2 stopped reading discs after a while, and my second PS2 system I
haven't played any movies on and it works perfectly still years later).
Also has online play, but no info on that.
The X-Box is a combination of the Wii and the PS3 - it has the games (and
some unique ones) and the graphics. I'd almost like to compare it to how
the PS2 or even the PS1 was during the days of the N64/Gamecube/Sega
Saturn/Dreamcast. It's definatly for the more mature person as the games
are tailored toward that age group. Also has online play, and from what I
hear a decent one at that.
Personally if I could only choose one I'd go with the Wii. Many unique
games, Smash Bros, Zelda, Metroid, Mario Kart all bring joy and fun to the
house. However if I were more of a hermit or didn't invite people over
often I'd go with an X-Box for the many single player games and the online
play. >> Stay informed about: PS3 v XBOX 360 v Wii |

That sums it up for me. The Wii is a very social game, with bowling still
being the big hit among my older guests. It's the only game that many of
my friends, including my parents have actually played with enthusiasm, or
at all for that matter. I would add that PC based gaming is another path
to the single person shooter games.

Not 'hate', but 'dont understand' gaming systems. Let's face it, most
non-hardcore gamers are intimidated by the 360/PS3 controllers, while
the wiimote is intuitive.

Simple, the Wii is not made for you (or me, for that matter). They've
given up on the hardcore market because there is more money in the non-
hardcore one. >> Stay informed about: PS3 v XBOX 360 v Wii |

The answer is simple. The Wii has a motion sensitive remote, and thus
has games for it that are unique and a lot of fun. But the games are
more for old guys, like myself, and not serious gamers, as the graphics
are much more primitive on the Wii than on the other two machines.
THe PS3's big advantage is that it plays Blu Ray and works well as a dvd
player.
The XBOX 360 has the most games for serious gamers. The PS3 may grow to
beat the XBOX at this but it will probably always be a close call. >> Stay informed about: PS3 v XBOX 360 v Wii |

Finish? You seem to have missed the point of Wii Sports.

My best friend loves Wii Sports and Smarty Pants. He doesn't hate game
systems - he just doesn't feel it's worth spending three to four
hundred dollars on a device with a software library that is mostly
replicated in the PC world.

Many people feel that having to memorize a different mapping of
controls for each game is counterproductive to a fun experience.
Many of us who are here have been playing video games all our lives
and so using a controller with three directional inputs and a
multitude of buttons is second nature.

Online play is pretty much a joke with the Wii. The system is much
better suited to playing in groups in real life versus playing with
people across the Internet.
You've got to wonder if Nintendo intended to make online play so
limited in order to encourage people to play together where the Wii
was set up.

The Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 are both targeted at the same audience
- serious "core" gamers. Developers for the systems tend to eschew
games for a more casual audience in favor of high-powered games that
try to dazzle people with graphics.
The Xbox 360 has the advantage of a much larger game library with many
more exclusives and, more importantly, good exclusives.
The Playstation 3 has a good game library but many of its games can be
found on the Xbox 360 as well. If you want to play Metal Gear Solid 4,
Uncharted, Heavenly Sword, MotorStorm, or Resistance, (games that are
among the better reviewed for the system), you HAVE to buy a
Playstation 3, though.
The Playstation 3 has more powerful and reliable hardware, but
unfortunately no game has really taken advantage of the added power to
any noticeable degree where gamers can really say "That's why we need
Blu-Ray as a storage format" or "That's why we need a Cell processor
in our console."
Nevertheless, the Playstation 3 still boasts a gorgeous game in
Uncharted and a game with very impressive high resolution textures in
Metal Gear Solid 4 (which is notably less, but still, impressive when
one looks past the texture quality to the actual graphics).
The Xbox 360 has a more robust and consistent online experience but
you have to pay to play and you have to deal with hiccups more often
than you would like depending on the game.
