Especially not Ratchet and Clank. Looks good, it's fun, but I mean its the
same thing as the others in the series and it won't sell consoles cos people

I have a co-worker who is an avid PS fan and I told him that R&C would
get at least a 9. Looked at it on Metacritic and there it was.. I saw
some HD video of that game, really good looking game. I never played
it on the PS2, so I am totally unfamiliar with the game series. Is it
anything like Jak and Daxter?

It makes no sense to have a scale where the top score cannot be
reached. Nobody assumes that 5 out of 5 means the game is perfect.
Well, nobody except alvinstraight. Most people know that there's no
such thing as a perfect game and 100% simply means the best a game
could realistically be considering all factors.

Aside from the fact that 100% doesn't mean perfect when it comes to
reviews, you still have it wrong... 9.5 out of 10 and 4.5 out of 5
aren't perfect by any definition.

And don't forget that a 90 out of 100 aggregate isn't nearly perfect.
Halo 3 got a 94 and Bioshock got a 96. And considering that the
advance previews of the game scored higher than the advance previews
of Ratchet & Clank, it's safe to assume that it will trounce Ratchet
soundly.

That depends on whether these scores and the franchise itself is
enough to sell systems based on just this game. Well, at least if you
really are trying to imply that this game is going to be the cause of
a "hot holiday."

The visuals are certainly very impressive. I don't know about the
gameplay because I've never played a Ratchet & Clank game and I
obviously haven't played this one.

Uncharted will probably be a good game - AAA, who knows?

Eye of Judgment is a throwaway game. It's funny how you keep trying to
claim games like this and Folklore are AAA when they clearly won't
sell big.

Haze will probably be a AAA game.

So that's 2 AAA exclusives this holiday season. Better than none, I
suppose.

There are still plenty of people who haven't purchased Halo 3, which
is a AAA game by many more standards. Bioshock is also a AAA game and
obviously there plenty of people who haven't purchased it yet. Mass
Effect is even more of a AAA title than any of the games coming out
for the Playstation 3 this holiday season.

I'd say Xbox 360 fans will be more than happy, although I'm sure PS3
fans will be absolutely ecstatic since they'll finally have some
compelling exclusives for the first time in a year.

He's not responding to Ratchet & Clank getting good ratings. There's
nothing wrong with a PS3 game getting good ratings. He's responding to

As much as I think alvinstraight is a twat, I have to say that I'm one of
the apparently few people who sees a 5/5 review as being perfect. Frankly,
I'm happy that Ratchet and Clank got such a high rating. The PS3 is starved
for games and it needs all the help that it can get. Mind you, I wouldn't
buy the system for Ratchet and Clank having totally ignored the previous
iterations out of pure lack of interest, but I'm sure it'll convince some
younger players.

It is like Jak & Daxter - the first game. Light storylines, lots of
humor, and most importantly, lots of really big guns to blow the *@&#
outta everything! (well, OK, Jak & Daxter didn't get guns until the 2nd
game...)

The games usually take place across different planets, each having 2 or 3
objectives to complete. Usually, these objectives are simply making it
through a level, avoiding hazzards, blowing up enemies, and collecting
bolts (cash). There are a myriad of minigames, as well. Past examples
have been a skateboard race, a treasure hunt, a mini-flight sim, even a
2d scrolling platformer(!) Collect bolts to buy ammo, new weapons,
upgrades, etc. There are also Golden Bolts, which are very well hidden
and usually require special equipment to obtain. These allow you to buy
the *real* powerful stuff... Finally, there are Skill Points. These are
almost like Achievements from the 360. These include little challenges,
such as win all the races, complete a certain level with out taking
damage, use just your wrench to defeat a particular boss, etc.
Skillpoints unlock additional costumes and other amusing cheats for the
game.

Finishing the game unlocks a new mode where you can earn tons of bolts
by taking out enemies and not taking any damage to increase your bolt
multiplier. You'll need this to afford the new more powerful weapons made
available to you, not to mention all the upgrades, and of course, the
super mega-powerful supreme weapon which basically destroys everything on
the screen (mu-hahaha!)
