Post subject: My PS3 Experience
Archived from groups: alt>games>video>xbox (more info?)

Hey all,

So I finally got a chance to try PS3 today. Incidently, I stopped by a
Gamestop that had one set up a couple days ago, and the TV wasn't on. The
guy at the store said the system stopped working. Anyhow, I went to Best
Buy this morning and they had a PS3 set up running NBA 07. There was a guy
standing there messing around with it so my friend and I stopped to check it
out too. The graphics were a psychedelic scrambled mess! The menus and
graphic overlays (score, etc) worked fine, but the gameplay looked like
slivers of moving, tinted, broken glass. The guy that was trying to play
looked at us and said "I dunno what happened." and walked away. I picked up
the controller to see what I thought of the "new feel" of it. I guess it's
alright. I decided to pause the game and sure enough, the pause menu came
up. I selected to quit the current game and we were treated to a nice
looking loading screen. The team select screen came up so I picked a new
team and told the game to start. The (1080p?) graphics looked sharp and
detailed on the menu screens. My friend asked me who made NBA 07 and I told
him it was Sony. The game finally stopped loading. We were treated to an
aerial view of the court for about a second, then the screen promptly
scrambled again! That was the end of that. I walked away and noticed that
right next to the PS3 was a 360 runnning "Gears of War" perfectly! What a
great way to promote a new system (that you can't buy anyhow) by showing how
well it (doesn't) work! "Gears of War" looked fantastic on that screen!

Last but not least, the Gamestop I was at two days ago had 2 PS3's in stock.
The manager said the systems had been there all day and no one bought them.
They were the 20gb models though. Everyone knows those don't get squat on
Ebay these days. Go figure.

It sounds like a PS3 overheating. That happens at kiosks.
