disk for PS1. Any help will be most helpful.

Yeah, MAME on an original Playstation wouldn't really be feasible. the
original had only a 33mhz cpu, and relied heavily on its graphics
processor (much in the same way the PS2 and Gamecube does). MAME uses
CPU only, video cards and such are fairly useless. The system you're
wanting to run would have difficulty running Pacman via true emulation.

But I have seen it running Galaxins , Space invaders. I have seen
somewhere on the Web a process to put about 30 Roms on a bootable cd for
psx.

This means that someone has portted mame to psx.

difference between someone porting it and having it work at a decent frame
rate.

As far as I know, MAME was only ported to the PS2. There are other game
packs that run some of the classic arcade games, but do not use true
emulation processes like MAME, it could also be you saw those. Even if
what you say is completely true, and MAME is available on the PSX, you'd
have to modify your playstation to even be able to run it. Cant run any
homebrew games without a modchip.
