PS2 outsells xflop 3-shitty again in May 2006

The second part of this story is Microsoft forced retailers to commit to
purchasing in volume which means that retail stores will be receiving
shipments of Xbox360's regardless if the last shipment even sold yet.
Normally, retail works off of a replace inventory when needed system to
keep from over stocking product on store shelves.

What Microsoft is doing at the retail level is forcing consoles out the
door. If you want to track how the Xbox 360 is doing, pay attention to
the sell-through numbers not the number sold to retail that Microsoft
will be using for Marketing purposes.

I was at my local Best Buy here in Austin, Tx and they had the Xbox
360's in a big pile in the middle of the gaming section. I don't know if
they are moving very many of them but pretty soon, as more shipments are
received, I would imagine that pile getting bigger.

Can you site an example where Sony has done this? To my knowledge, Sony
has not forced volume orders on retail. Since the price drop, PS2's are
moving off shelves at a nice pace.

PSP - 160,000
GBA - 152,000
DS - 146,000

Once again the PSP outsells the DS in the US even tho it's $70 more.

Actually, I don't know if you know this but they never include the PSP on
those lists for some reason. As much as a moron Merk is, it is a shame when
reasonable people choose to try and mirror his fanboyish fervor. No one in
their right mind would think that the Xbox or even the Gamecube outsold the
PSP. If you check the charts, they have historically left the PSP off for
some unexplained reason. Even in months when it was second to the PS2, it
was left off.

The only thing I can think of is Sony using their camera market to get
the PSP out there... "Hey guys, we'll give you an extra 2% discount on
our cameras and memory sticks if you start carrying the PSP too!"

I can't think of any other reason for camera stores to start selling
PSPs, except maybe as an external display device for digital pictures.
