Precisely, and with only 33k sales between the two, and the 360 valued
at twice the price and upwards, there's far more revenue being
generated around the 360. Furthermore, the 360 is a NEW system, and a
large chunk of those PS2s are going to be 2nd or 3rd systems, so fewer
games will be bought with them. Even more significant is that the
margins on PS2 games are smaller for retailers. PS2 has value range
games, XBOX 360 does not.

It's also important to recognise that the sales of the 360 are
INCREASING again!

The more you post sales figures of the 360, the more your arguments
collapse into obscurity.

What will happen next is that the PS3 will launch, sales of the PS2
will plummet, but because the PS3 costs so much, will be in shortage
(due to low CELL and DIode yeilds), and a multi-national launch, the
360 sales will skyrocket, leaving the PS3 AND PS2 behind. Meanwhile Wii
will mop up the sales that the PS2 would have had too.

Get used to being wrong, because it's all you're going to be from now
on!

True and the fact that 360 games cost $20 more than PS2 games, that is
good news for developers. Anyone has a list of the top game sales for

That is impressive because there were only a few 360 games released in
June. I thought sales were going to plummet in june due to lack of new
games. Sales should pickup this month due to much hyped NCAA Football,
Prey and LotR releasing. I noticed that 360 is finally getting a larger
advertising budget as well. There are about five 360 game ads in the
latest EGM and LotR is game of the month.

I have no idea what the failure rate is on the PS2, but with a "total
systems sold" total at 100+ million, it wouldn't surprise me that the
PS2 is selling that many a month for replacement units.

All that says to me is that there are a lot of people out there who
have invested a lot of money in their PS2 that didn't mind having to
re-buy a relatively cheap replacement so they can continue playing
their games.

I wonder what the percentage of first time sales are for the PS2 versus
the 360. Something tells me the 360 is probably winning those sales
numbers.

This is true... if you have $500 to $1000 worth of games sitting around
and your system dies it's no big deal to drop another $150 to keep
playing them.

If you have $5,000 to $10,000 worth of pirated games sitting around and
your system dies it's no big deal to drop $150 on hardware to keep
playing them.

BTW, I like how bliZ omits that DS continues to kill PSP in sales...

Figures from Nintendo claim that combined sales of both Nintendo DS
hardware iterations amounted to just under 600,000 in June - a figure
with which NPD's estimates of 593,000 agree. PSP sales for the month
were put at 221,000

The PSP is a pretty sophisticated piece of kit and the DS is,
essentially, a childrens toy. They are priced accordingly so it's not
quite accurate to compare apples to apples on that...

OK maybe... but explain how DS consoles and games consistently outsell
PSP and games in US, and especially in japan? As "sophisticated" as PSP
is, bottomline its a console first. If the games don't sell, 3rd
parties will bail.
