Hi Jeff,

This seemed better as a separate thread, as it's only one issue and
it's not closely related to those in the other thread.

Often on levelup -- and this may well be an SDL-only thing, since I
imagine you'd have been too aggravated by it to not change it if it
were as present in GameBoy play -- I end up accidentally confirming
"adventurer" as my levelup choice before I even get to *see* the class
choice screen, yea verily, the first sign I receive of my levelup is
the dialog telling me I've just picked adventurer! There are some
actions that kill things (e.g. ranged combat) that, if they don't
downright require pressing space to initiate them, I've at least never
bothered to look for an alternative since space is so lovely and big.
Either this is getting some extra pressings of space into the keypress
buffer (if one exists, of course), or I'm just a little too gung-ho.
Smile And then there's just the times when I mash away at space because
it "might do what I need" at the moment (say, clearing messages), and
if that coincides with level-up, well... Of course ideally, I
"shouldn't do that, then," but in reality, a bit of cheap
idiot-friendliness might not hurt?

Some ideas on alternatives to the present system:
- Like in many idiot-friendly web dropdowns: set the default option to
"pick an option."
- A "more" keypress before showing the picker... ideally a "more"
keypress that isn't the spacebar.
- Free pizza for every POWDER player, courtesy of Jeff.

(OK, the third wouldn't do anything to solve the problem, but it would
keep my stomach and taste buds satisfied for a while, and even mildly
impact world hunger. Plus, my convoluted laziness preferred thinking up
and long-windedly justifying a third option than changing "some" to "a
couple of.")

Actually, *is* it true that the GBA version is less affected/unaffected
by this issue? I could just switch to playing in Visual Boy Advance.
Maybe I could even get my daughter to play, as she's already accustomed
to simple keyboard-mapped GBA interfaces. ("Now press the big button,
Anna!" -- that is, the spacebar. Smile )

(The deductions one can make from the above about my ethics are as
embarrassing as they are true. Hope you're not too disappointed.)

Piper's First Rule of Silly Geek-Style Rules: in at least one post on
any date sufficiently close to June 28th, 2006, someone will make an ad
hoc informally-stated bug-ridden speech-defected quip comparing
sufficiently advanced roguelikes to half of Linley Henzell's Dungeon
Crawl.

Piper's Clarifying Corrolary to Piper's First Rule of Silly Geek-Style
Rules: Sufficient proximity to June 28th, 2006 is *vastly*
asymptotical.

I hope I have fixed this with 073 in two ways. First, I think I
removed a way in which keyrepeat can accidentally cause clearing a more
prompt to trigger a selection menu. Second, I added a no-op choice for
deity selection so you should have no excuse for picking the wrong god.

Please ignore this announcement and wait for 074, as 073 introduced
other bugs with level up. *sigh*
