Why does every stinkin' Blizzard WoW patch have to break addons? I
finally find a map location addon to work after the 2.0.1 patch, and now
this piece of Shi* patch breaks the x,y loc again. Why oh why oh why
Blizzard? Can't code decently anymore?

/growl

/cast=stun, /target=Bliz coders

that would be due to the minor fact that most of the add-ons made as
freeware by college kids make Blizzards hackneyed and cobbled together
UI looking woefully inaddequate and painfully unusable. Thus Blizzard,
being what they are, break add-ons with every patch instead of trying
to make the UI better.

It's part of the dysfunctional "World of Warcraft on Jerry Springer"
cycle.

Blizzard provided the framework and capabilities on the client to
encourage client enrichment via addons. At times there is need to
streamline the environment to protect Blizzard's interest and it's
users, hence addons break. Blizzard is not accommodating third-party
software: developers and Blizzard work together, on Blizzard's best
interest, really.

No! No!

*casts unstun on the coders*

We need them to fix it!

Blizzard don't care about add-ons. If they "break" them, then the add-on
makers have to fix them.

Fair enough, too. Blizzard shouldn't have to change anything in their code
to accomodate third-party software.

I use the following macro. It still works fine in 2.03...

/script SetMapToCurrentZone(); local px, py =
GetPlayerMapPosition("player");
DEFAULT_CHAT_FRAME:AddMessage(string.format( "%s %d, %d %s",GetZoneText(),
px*100, py*100, GetSubZoneText()));

Define "break".

In most cases the new WoW version is compatible with old addons (2.0 being
the exception due to the degree of changes in the addon language and the
WoW API) and a simple change to the addon's table of contents (toc) file to
declare it compatible with the new WoW version is sufficient. I routinely
change the toc files on my orphaned addons (the ones with no maintainer)
when a patch rolls out and they generally either keep working or are
obsoleted by changes in the game. With one orphaned addon, I had to make
some changes to the code for 2.0, but they were minor and a result of a
change in the Lua syntax.

The 2.03 patch fixed some language and API bugs and so workarounds in 2.01-
based addons may no longer work and instead appear "broken"

Use good addons. Mine (Koordinator) works after the patch without any
problems.

Try putting the item in your backpack rather than another bag - I noticed
that one mentioned on the forums and it seems it works in the backpack, but
not anywhere else... it's likely to get fixed in the next patch, whenever
that might be!

And I really hope they fix the vanishing target frames quickly, it's
terrible trying to play without them :-/

Anyone else having trouble with bagnon post-patch? It throws errors
nearly every time I put an item in my bags and/or bank. I checked
cursegaming and I have the latest (as of today) version.

Perhaps you're just not using the right addons - I have many, many
addons, and I didn't notice any problems when I logged in last night
(although, admittedly, I didn't do much other that play in the AH).

I only have this issue if Smartbuff is enabled. Without Smartbuff they are
just fine on my installation. And I am sure there will be a fix to SB pretty
soon.

Whenever I read a message like this or hear someone complain about
broken addons, I really feel glad not to use ANY Addon. I wouldn't know
what for actually.

Of course, I've never been to a raid (except for BGs which is not
relevant here), but I'm frequently in the lvl60 5-man instances and
never felt like something would be missing.

After installing a patch I just start the game and can play along...
(if the servers are up and working) Wink

I'm not saying you should not use any addons (or maybe I am?), I only
wanted to show that in fact there are people (I know at least one other
person) who are perfectly fine with the UI provided by Blizzard. Is
someone else here who uses no addons?

It could have to do with playing on a roleplayingserver - I heard this
kind of players are a little weird...
