PS

Scanning with SpyBot Search & Destroy is also useful for this one.

If SpyBot wants to reboot & scan - allow it to do this, it can access
the infecting files at a lower level and generally does a darn good job
at cleaning up.

Apologies if you have already done this.

Sorry - this is my last after thought. :-\

I've found it very handy to "install" virus and/or malware scanners onto
a USB stick.
Can be useful to not install scanners onto an already infected system.

http://www.softpedia.com/get/PORTABLE-SOFTWARE/Antivirus---Antispyware/

some are freeware.

Bruce,
How did you know I had this problem?
this spyware 'System Security' is the worst bit of malware i have
encountered and i am glad it is not on my PC.
I have scoured Google and the newsgroups and no-one yet has come up with a
method of getting rid of it.
Yours Quilly,

Hi Quilly

Have a read through this forum comments:

http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic122572.html

Other than that - it may be well worth a PING to Dustin Cook (?) in the
spyware group.
I believe Dustin is one of the hi-tech guys at MalWareBytes who would be
in a good position to offer further advice.

Cheers - keep us posted on how things go - thanks

Hi Chris
It is not me but a 'client' His computer is also very slow and he has now
decided to buy a new bottom of the range Dell, but it bugs me that I spent a
whole day on his machine and got no-where.

I have friend who is infected with a rogue piece of false spyware removal
called System Security. Can anyone help me to get rid of it without buying
yet another antispyware program? I have tried all the usual well-known
programs used on this ng, without success. This is really a malicious piecs
of software

Just today I downloaded the updated SuperAntiSpyware program (freeware
version)
It purports to be able to detect and clean the beastie that you're doin'
battle with.

Does this rogue software copme up with a big splash screen saying a
virus has been found and you basically can't do anything with the
computer until you pay for some removal tool? If so, I had this on my
work computer a few months back, and the local computer mob came and
got rid of it in a few minutes. I did have the printout on how to get
rid of it somewhere. Hope I still do, if not, remind me exactly what it
says and I'll try to dig it up.

Please let me know EXACTLY what the rogue program pretends to call
itself again. Something like 2008 Anti Virus or something from memory.
