RE4 on PC help needed (boulder escape)

Haven't seen many positive posts on the PC version, but as I have not
upgraded a console since N64, it's the only way I'll get to play RE4. If I
can get past the friggen boulder in the first level that is! I can never
outrun it and figure it's probably because of the keyboard control. No
matter how fast I tap the run button, I always get mashed in the same spot
and have never made it to the dodge prompt that I keep reading about on the
sites that only talk about the console versions. Anyone have any luck with
getting past this trap this way or any other?

This was discussed on the Gamespot RE4 message board, it seems you have to
'use the "ENTER" key on your keyboard-tap it rapidly to sprint', don't have
the pc version myself so if that's how you're doing it & it's not working I
apologise.
