I spent the afternoon reassigning some of my medieval clothing as
outwear so my SIMS don't look so feweaky in ski apparel while flitting
about...got all the females done and figure I'll do the males
tomorrow...beats waiting for someone to come up with something...I
looked at the tutorials again for making clothes but I don't have
Phorroshop, but do have NET.Paint..problem is, it won't let you ahve two
things on the desktop at one time, which you need to have to layer (I
tried the tutorial for making wallpaper..was an abyssmal failure because
of that...)...has anyone here used the freeware GIMP? I understand the
basics about the vortices and facets of the mesh but the application of
doing the whole process is complicated...I'm one of those people that
learns best by watching or listening to someone else do it and then
plowing on...hate written instructions..

Well, I don't use GIMP but it's always recommended as good - it does a fair
amount of stuff and is a freebie. However, you don't need to know about
vertices and so on for that because it's only a paint programme and all you
do with paint programmes is alter the texture which you export from
Bodyshop.

If you're thinking about meshes, you'll need SimPE (not working for Seasons
yet) and a 3D meshing programme - most people use Milkshape. And then
you'll probably need a tutorial - I followed one from MTS2 a while back.
It's not that hard but is a bit fiddly and you have to get all the steps
right.

To be honest, if you are new to meshing it's likely someone will have
produced a new set of outerwear clothes before you manage to build a new
mesh. Are there not some existing clothes you could convert to outerwear
(the old fashioned way)? Export some clothes with SimPE and then
immediately reimport them but changing the category they are available in as
you do. You'll need to delete the old file then or you'll have two copies
of the clothes in question.

Best wishes
