Just got my Ork Spearhead... GW screwed up and didn't send my Codex though.

Not that this set anyone back too badly, but it would have been nice to
have a color version. Razz

Pics of sprues to come when I can take some.

OK, piccies up. See them here:
http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v358/Hive_Tyrant/40K/New%20Orks/

If there's anything you want to see closer let me know.

I have a couple comparing the old and new Trukk, Bikes and Boyz parts
together side by side. Surprisingly very little about the Boyz has
changed; they just packed what used to come on two sprues together on
one. As a whole the new sprues are denser packed and space is made much
more efficient use of.

The Loota/Burna sprues have three parts; Lootas sprue, Burnas sprue, and
a Mek/Body sprue used for either. With normal Boyz you can make five of
each very easily with one set.

The Trukk is interesting because while it looks so much bigger than the
old one in the pics, it's parts really don't compare that much bigger.
It must be the height of the body that new axles and frame give. The
complete engine with headers and blower are a nice touch and I see it
making it's way into a bike conversion I'm planning.

The Bikes are nice looking and comparable in size to the old bikes.
Having them side by side makes the old bike models look particularly
soft in detail and aged. I'll probably have a mix of old and new bikers
in my army. Maybe I'll use the new bikes for Nobs with the older ones
being the rank and file. Makes sense since the Nobs would take the
latest and greatest for themselves.

The Codex isn't due for a couple more weeks, it's not part of the Spearhead
box. Did you order it separately, or were you expecting the Spearhead to be
like the Army Deal boxes released in the past?

Supposedly GW was going to send out codices with the spearhead.
They've done this once or twice before, having to send out army books
with deals that didn't have them. I think the Tau army box was one of
them?

Ordered it separate. According to sources at the FLGS and GW, you could
order it at the same time as the Spearhead but had to pay for it.

At my local store, GW sent Codices along and the Spearhead buyers got one.
I have seen the promised land. It sure is a nice looking Codex.

Having had the codex for a couple months now, I can say... yes, yes it
is nice. I LOVE the fluff being back in there. The one story of the
Warboss on the daemon planet is a favorite. And I think they got just
the right mix of "unstoppable horde" and "funny tech" in the mix.
We've had one local player using the new codex in a few games, most
have been losses but it's working pretty good. I like the variety it
allows. Good stuff.

January 8, when I can officially start using it, I will be a happy
man!

Thanks! Much better than anything I've seen so far.

I love the flying bullets on the sprue, will make a nice touch for
some big shootas. The variety and options are awesome, I'll have a
tone of bits for my bits box when I'm done building some new Orks. I
am going to be a happy camper.

Looks like two boxes of Loota/Burnas plus one box of Boyz = 10 Lootas
and 10 Burnas!

Actually, looking at them closer it's more like 4 Burnas, 4 Lootas and a
Mekboy Kustom Mega Blasta. You could use the KMB to represent either, of
course. That's it in the middle left here:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v358/Hive_Tyrant/40K/New%20Orks/Burn...loseup2

I think it looks a little more like a Burna myself but then again
there's enough other bitz you could load onto it that it would look
suitably Deff enough.

So you have to convert a couple of models. If you're not big on
converting, you probably shouldn't be playing Orks to begin with. My
entire Tankbusta mob is going to be 3rd edition models with a lot of
conversions.

Truer words have never been spoken... that's probably the main reason I
started playing the Greenskins in the first place! Conversions and
modeling are more fun to me than playing sometimes.

Yeah, the trick is to actually FINISH all the projects you start with
the Orks.
