That's reasonable, but you can skip around a bit. We were trying
bosses in AQ20 well before getting to Nefarian (and got Ossirian down the
same week we did our first full clear of BWL). ZG is actually a bit harder
than Molten Core in my opinion, but since it only requires 20 it makes
sense to try some of it first. With the exception of resistances, the ZG
quest gear is as good or better than your tier 1 set - I rarely wear my
felheart robe after getting the demoniac's set. ZG is a great place to gear
up for a serious attempt at larger raids.

The quest to get the key to Onyxia is long and annoying, but some parts of
it are soloable - best to get started on that about level 54 - you will
pick up a ton of experience doing it! On a difficulty basis, you'll
generally want to start doing it when you find you can clear the first
couple bosses in Molten Core. There are really only two complications to
the fight - your tanks need a LOT of fire resist since they will get
breathed on very often. The rest of the raid will benefit from fire resist
too, at least initially when you'll have issues with "deep breaths"
(lay on more DoTs if you get these, it seems to help) and aggro stealing,
which can send Onyxia running all over the place biting squishie's heads
off. Also, fearing of the main tank can be a killer - Alliance uses
dwarf priests for fear warding.
There are only a handful of (identical) trashmobs before you're in the lair,
and provided someone doesn't get tailwhipped into whelp eggs, you have
only Onyxia herself to focus on. Not only that, she drops Tier *2*
headpieces, lots of other great items, and you get to display her head on
the entrance to your main capital city (Ogrimmar/Stormwind). *
