Is it okay for an alliance character to take a quest from this guy? I
mean, he's an Orc. Or is he considered a rogue Orc and not in good
standing with the Horde?
Been so long since I was there, I don't even remember what the quest
was. Something about some fuel or rocket car parts that someone at the
racetrack needs or something like that.
So am I going to cook my goose if I take this Orc's quest?
Three cheers for Martek in the Badlands!!
OH! OH! OH!

He is not a rogue Orc he is an Orc Hero but it IS OK for you to take
the quest. If you go to the Alliance Tower their in badlands and have
whatever level prereq quests done to trigger the Alliance leader of
that outpost actually tells you that its stupid for the horde and
alliance to be fighting each other when there is a far more dangerous
enemy to us both. He then SENDS you to that orc hero and tells you to
do his quest.
So you are fine doing the quest. It has a nice little trinket reward
at the end of the line that gives you +HP and +MANA regen per tic.
Pally's really like that trinket pre raid level.
>From a story standpoint keep in mind that the background is such that
the Horde are NOT the bad guys. The story is that the Horde are made
up mostly of races that were at one point controlled by Sargeras but
who rebelled and actually helped save the day in the last war against
the demons. As you progress to endgame you will find more and more
areas of cooperation between the two. For example when you make it to
silithus you will find Alliance and Horde army standing side by side in
their camps and working together to kill the bugs. Also I'd bet just
about anything that in the outlands we will see Alliance/Horde together
again in little encampments working together against the demons. Just
BE WARNED that these Horde in your camp aren't always NECESSARILY
friendly. Move your mouse cursor over them some will show the normal
talk or vendor option some will show the sword (attack) symbol. Be
VERY carefull because the ones that are not friendly will stand their
quietly and do nothing to harm you even if you walk right up and /poke
em but if you accidentaly go to interact with them mistaking them for a
vendor or someone to talk to YOU will attack them and then both
Alliance and Horde NPC's in that camp will wax your ass. So BE
CAREFULL. : )
For the future keep in mind that there will NEVER be a quest that
someone will give you that you aren't allowed to do. If for any reason
their is a faction issue that is a problem you won't be offered the
quest and the NPC will either ignore you completely or attack you
outright.

There's nothing inherently wrong with orcs, or even inherently
anti-Alliance. Thrall's responsible for the continued existence of the
Alliance, after all... And on my server (and any server doing the War
Effort), there's an orc general in the Ironforge Military District as
an ambassador.
Remember that: on most servers, Alliance and Horde are not truly at
war, despite the frequent skirmishes between aggressive elements of
each.

You can never lose reputation with your own faction. (i.e. if
Alliance, you won't lose Stormwind, Darnassus, Gnomeregan Exiles or
Ironforge rep, ever.)
Moreover, if an NPC's name is green to you, you can talk to him without
fear.

And for Alliance, there's always the two Desolace quest chains that are
effectively mutually exclusive, starting with "Brutal Politics" or
"Strange Alliance" (names IIRC), where you have to choose to ally with
the Gelkis centaurs (and kill Magram centaurs), or ally with the Magram
(and kill Gelkis).

I've never seen any quest that hurt your reputation with your main
faction. There are quests that hurt secondary factions, most notably doing
quests in booty bay making the bloodsail pirates hate your guts. *

Don't go that far. I think you lose some faction reputation by killing
civilians. *

Um, that's in the Blasted Lands, not the Badlands Onion is referring
to the orc questgiver at the tiny trading post in the middle of the Badlands.
