Post subject: Optimus Prime for Champions RPG!
Archived from groups: rec>games>frp>super-heroes, others (more info?)

Here is a little conversion I did a while back, and recently updated. I always
loved the Transformers and Champions RPG conversions, so I combined the two!

http://mywebpages.comcast.net/mathewignash/csiotimusprime.html

I'll try to add a history from the Dreamwave comics soon.

Explanation of the conversion: Optimus can use his axe and rifle only in
robot mode, but can use his headlight blasters only in truck mode.

History (television series): The Autobot today known as Optimus Prime was
created as Orion Packs 9 million years ago on the planet Cybertron. Orion
worked at an energy storage dock at the end of the last golden age of
Cybertron. About this time a transformer named Megatron attacked and
nearly killed Orion in one of the earliest battles of the great war on
Cybertron. Orion only survived thanks to the work of Alpha Trion, who
completely rebuilt Orion into a new, more powerful form so that he could
help fight Megatron and his Decepticon forces. Orion was given the Matrix
and dubbed Optimus Prime.

History (Marvel comics): During the great war on Cybertron between the
Autobots and Decepticons, a leader arose from the city of Iacon. He was
Optimus Prime.

If he had been on Earth, he would be a doctor, a mechanic, a scientist and
a warrior, but on Cybertron there is no difference between these
professions. So Optimus uses his skills to heal and repair - which are the
same things to Autobots - to improve the world around him and, if
necessary, to fight. Both in power and intelligence, he has no equal. He
has the personality of an Abraham Lincoln. He can be immensely kind and
his compassion extends to all that lives, including the creatures of
Earth. Yet he will battle unceasingly to protect the weak and defend what
he believes in. To accomplish this, Optimus knows that the Decepticons
must be defeated for all time.

When Optimus learned that the planet Cybertron was threatened by a meteor
shower he lead a band of his Autobots, including Bumblebee, Grimlock,
Jazz, Mirage, Prowl, Slag, Sludge and Swoop, on the great ship called the
Arc in an attempt to destroy the metoers. Although Optimus was successful,
his ship was attacked by a ship lead by Megatron. In order to keep the Arc
from falling to Megatron's hands, Optimus ordered it to be crashed into a
nearby uninhabited planet. After laying dormant for millions of years the
ship reactivated and rebuilt all the Autobots and Decepticons on board,
redesigning them to more easily survive on the new planet, Earth. Optimus
was given the ability to assume the form of a semi truck.

Although Optimus Prime can function as three independent modules, injury to
any one of the modules is felt by the other two. Roller is particularly
vulnerable, especially in the behind-the-lines situations in which he
specializes. However, the Optimus module is by far the most important
component of the trio. Although he could survive without the other two,
they could not survive without him. Otherwise, the only weakness he could
be accused of having is being too compassionate and concerned about the
safety of others. He would be a more effective military commander if he
were more ruthless, but then he wouldn't be Optimus Prime.

Trivia: On the Transformers television show, the voice of Optimus Prime is
played by actor Peter Cullen.

Trivia: Besides the original form Optimus Prime took, later toys portrayed
him as a Powermaster, Action Master and then recolored as a Generation 2
toy. The toy for Optimus Prime is similar to that of Ultra Magnus.

Powers: When Optimus Prime was rebuilt by the Arc on Earth he gained the
ability to assume the form of a semi truck. In that form he can travel at
high speeds over land. Thanks to modifications done on him by Wheeljack he
can also assume a hydrofoil mode to travel over water. He can fire
powerful blasts from his headlights.

In robot mode Optimus Prime actually splits into three components. The
Optimus module is the robotic sentient being that is the storehouse of his
vast knowledge and strength. He carries a laser
rifle and can burn a hole in the nosecone of a Decepticon jet fighter at a
distance of 30 miles, aided by his outstanding visual acuity. Optimus's
right hand can convert into a powerful energy axe. Optimus can project
simple holographic maps from his eyes or headlights.

His Prime module, also known as Roller, is a small cart-shaped device that
he uses to unobtrusively slip behind enemy lines. He can maintain radio
control over it at distances up to 1200 miles. Having Roller present
somewhere is like being there himself.

He can operate by remote-control his Combat Deck module up to a distance of
1500 feet. The auto-launcher mounted on the Deck can use a variety of
artillery and radiation beam weapons, including most of those used by his
fellow Autobots. The launcher also includes a highly dexterous grapple-arm
which allows it to load itself and change its weaponry. The communications
disk antenna mounted on the launcher provides a link between Optimus and
all his fellow Autobots within a radius of 50 miles. It can be adapted to
a satellite hook-up that increases its effective range 10-fold.

He was also once (in TWW) called Optromix, according to Furman.

Is there some special stat for his ramming attack (as in TFTM), or is it
just a movement/brawling thing? (I know nothing about the Champions rules,
so I'm just throwing out datapoints.)

If you really want to shoehorn TWW in there (as you seem to by remembering
his "archivist" job), you can fanwank that Orion Pax was actually rebuilt
into Optromix, then served as an archivist for a few cycles before receiving
the Matrix. Yeah, I know it contradicts the cartoon, but the 'toon gave
Optimus a semi-truck cab for a chest before humans evolved.

Ark. As in Noah's. Arc is an electrical flash --which may be an intentional
pun on your part, admittedly (electronics => cybernetics => ship built by
giant robots).

Just a thought: the Combat Deck could also be used to scramble long-range
targetting --ensuring that any attackers have to move into visual range and
use manual targetting (no over-the-horizon cruise missile attacks).

Mark
"Which explains why no one ever seemed to try their 'several-hundred
kilometer range' attacks on/around Optimus."

I read that somewhere. Is that official, at least in the Dreamwave continuity?

It's called a "move through" maneuver. He does it well. I also have the
Stunticons doing it in my gaming rules.

I'm going to write seperate TV, Marvel and Dreamwave histories.

I haven't actually written the RPG rules for the deck. I have been reading the
War Within series lately, and I'd love for them to do more with it, and
hopefully we learn more detail about pre-Earth Optimus. Like, did he have a
dombat deck and roller back then? Maybe Roller was something he had before
becomming Prime? Like a library assistant?

Optronix. The 'm' was a spelling error on someone's part.

I've added a number of these things to the page so far, and am adding
more all the time. Let me know what you think.
