That's it, exactly!

> I look forward to the Scything taloned Nids version

Nid players may have to settle for the "Without Number" sets -
* 120 Gaunts priced at @25% below retail (pre-Neal)
* 5 Carnifex Deep Striking Brood at the same discount, etc.

> wonder why it is that Armorcast was able to do
> large resins at the price of GW plastics

Shhh! (GW has quietly made plastics more expensive than metals.)
Seems only yesterday that 1in plastic infantry figs were 2 for $1.
Lead infantry was all 1-4 dollars in direct relation to their weight.
FF to 2007: 9 bucks for a Termi? 17 for a Techmarine? Incredible.
See? They've made $3-5 plastic infantry seem *relatvely* cheap.

> hope they come up with 1 or 2 decent big Nid kits in plastic

Good luck with that. :- /
GW have always been great at exploiting other people's creativity.
But, where original thinking/ hard work are needed they founder.
We'll be lucky to get an outsized version of a current Nid fig.

> a hideously expensive version of 'Rock, Scissors, Paper'

The rucksack with Big Gun dice, plates and book is just US$95! ;- P

> don't think it's unreasonable that a larger battle take 3 or 4
> hours to play out

Of course it still can, if you know that you'll have that sort of
time.
The Vortex etc, rules compensate for the loss of FOC restriction.
Ideally, 3kpt games will last exactly as long as 1500pt games.
Ideally . . .

> spending an afternoon playing a fun game is enjoyable

The key to 40kA's appeal will be the inevitable first turn bloodbath.
Every player will know that great swathes will perish in the first
turn!
To me, that sounds pretty enjoyable, and there'll be a side-benefit:
That foreknowledge will kill game-winnng 'no-brainer' Unit combos.

Drop Pod Army? Fine. Zilla Nids? Whatever. Fish of Fury? Bring it.
Siren Prince? First and Ten? Daemon Bomb? Firin' Warriors?
Armoured Column? Choir? Asscannon Spam? More Cowbell?
All are equal under the 40kA Instakilly Template of No-save Doom.

> I'll wait and see how well it plays out for other folks

Yeah, I'll take point on this one.

Do they happen to have a lot of Hammerhead kits in stock? Since the
Skyray and Hammerhead cost the same I guess it would become difficult
to sell the Hammerhead kits if everyone knew that that you get all
sprues with the Skyray. The local GW store here has even stopped
carrying Hammerheads due to this.

The local store (Battle Station in Maroochydore, Queensland, Australia)
doesn't actually keep much in stock at the moment. The former manager
was a bit stupid with ordering, and the actual player employee is now in
charge...
At any rate, Tau around here is rare, so not much sells at all...
Biggest sellers tend to be marines, judging by armies... Makes it hard
to win a game without bearding...

considering that 40kA may be the financial equivalent of getting
fisted by a Wraithlord, I think we can consider knee pads to be "Out

Yes, the new things are quite pretty, and 3000 pt games sound kewl, but the
prices they'll be asking for the Apocalypse combo boxes are >way< over my
budget. If the rumor about taking allies is true, then I'll be good with all
the Imp. armies I already have. BT, DA, SoB, GK and Guard, oh my!

But I will buy a Baneblade, just so I can be like all the other cool kids Wink

But does it really count as 'RGMW Style' without kneed pads?

I'm of the same opinion.. and it kinda goes back to how it usually is
for me when GW does something new..

"hey.. maybe this is the turn-around!" and invariably it's not... you
can only wait for the turn-around for so long.

at this point for me.. the pricing isn't even a positive.. when you're
selling off you're collection, a mass lowering of prices (and even an
almost return to the heady days of "internet mass discounting" since I
know of at least one local store that will give me a 20% discount on
special orders.) is the eptiome of "too little, too late".

if it lasts, it may be worth it in a few years when I get my finances
sorted out and I can afford to by a 2 for 3 tank set when I need one
or 2 and sell the extra(s) off on ebay. but until then... meh.. I hope
it works out for someone.

Weird, isn't it? I don't mind the Chaos changes (with the exception of
demon nerfing), but Apocalypse hasn't stirred a single mote of interest
in me at all - all I see it doing is attracting the cheesemonkeys who
want to pull out a couple of Titans and scream WAAAGH every time they
blow away another 30 figures that turn.

The pricing interests me, but unless I start a new 40K army (unlikely
since I haven't even fielded my Eldar yet, and my cultists haven't been
out of the box for over 2 years now) there's no point for me since I've
got plenty of vehicles anyway.

There have been more positive signs this year, but basically past
finishing my Ogre army and picking up some Commissars I'm pretty much
done - two WFB armies, three 40K armies, and my Necro/BB stuff is more
than enough. That doesn't even cover the other systems I play like
Battletech.

Two years ago it would really have been good for me, but any of the big
sets now would just be overkill unless I dumped old versions of vehicles
like Rhinos to update to new ones, but I can't be bothered.
