For all those who are interested:
Ok, first things first - Nostalgia and Comics, as of last week, are no
longer making a room available to us. This is simply a matter of necessity -
anybody who goes in will see that the extra stock they have upstairs just
gives us no room. Do NOT go to Nostalgia on wednesday evenings, you will be
turned away. We will continue to use them for supplies (as long as they
remain as competitive as they have been), and apparently they are happy to
pass our details on to interested parties.
So it's all over...
Well, not quite. There is a pub in Selly Oak called The Bristol Pear
(http://www.itchybirmingham.co.uk/venues/377.html...Directions on the
website, or call me on 07981 362 182 to double check). We had an abortive
attempt to use the venue about two months ago - the fact I overlooked was
that sadly, the entire place has strict rules barring people under 18. The
flipside of this is that being a pub, it is licensed. Drinks will not only
be available, they will be recommended.
As of now, we have non-official permission to use a corner of it for our
purposes. (This is a good thing. But fragile - they do not know what we're
like so be gentle with them, ok?) As and when we get enough people to
warrant it, we may or may not move upstairs to an entire room. It is still
on at 6:30 for prompt 7 pm start - however, the activities may go on later
as we won't get chucked out till 11.
So, what are we going to do? I heartily invite everybody to turn up this
coming wednesday for a New Type II event - That means we all finally get to
play with our CoK, but cannot touch Onslaught. This event, however, is a
preliminary one - to see how it feels, check we won't get chucked out or
shouted at, etc etc.
The main starting event is a Drunken CoK Draft a week from wednesday - so
the 3rd of November. To celebrate the new venue, every single participant
will get one (1) free drink - pint, glass of wine, or bottle of whatever
(obligatory "Don't take the piss" warning) to start you going. If you're
scared of alcohol, there is a small range of nonalcoholic ones, and you will
not get ostracised...much... This is a pure freebie - you will still get the
same lovely 3-4 rounds swiss action followed by 5-3-2-2 prizes.
