I want to uninstall Oblivion and then install it on another hard drive, but
I want to pick the game up where I left off.

Has anyone else done this? What files do I need to make sure get kept? Will
just the save file folder do it?
Thanx.

You need the mods you're using. Hopefully you have them backup in
their original format (.zip, .exe, whatever) so you can install them
onto your new Oblivion installation.

If your My Documents folder isn't getting moved, your save games will
survive the process. Otherwise, backup \My Documents\My Games\xxx. The
folder name should be very obvious. Stick it in the new My Documents
folder after installing.

You can just copy the whole OBLIVION folder to any place you want to. (Use a
NO DVD crack
make's life easier).
And if to a different O/S then copy Save Games from \My Documents\My
Games\(whatever)
You will then find if you are using the same O/S it will run fine..
BUT if its another install of the O/S clicking on Oblivion.exe will start
it & run...but you may not have
all the mods loading..
To get the 'OblivionLauncher.exe' to run It must be installed so the details
are in Windows registry.
....but you can go through the fresh install process giving a different
folder name from the one you
already have ...Then it will be 'Properly installed & you can delete that
new install & use your original.

That's possible, yes. Just find out the related registry entries, and
if there are any options in the configuration files.

But I won't advice people to edit the registry... I don't know how
good they are with computers. A wrong key pressed and they might have
a lot of trouble.

So just take the time to reinstall... if you don't know how to find
where the settings are in the registry and configuration files.

I don't think this is true. I recently moved My Documents (which
happens to contain Oblivion) to another hard drive.....and had to
reinstall to get the game to run. Morrowind, BTW, handled the port
fine. Sims2 did not. Sims1 did.

Just a follow up.
I finally got up the nerve to uninstall and then reinstall on new hard
drive.

Oblivion transfers pretty easily it turns out. All I did was keep the 'save
files' in my Mydocuments folder and then re-installed all the mods I was
using off the 'Knights of Nine' disc [I had to uninstall each mod one by
one, and then reinstall one by one]. The re-installation picked up where I
left off without any hitches.

Had to do the same myself- uninstall and reinstall them one by one- a
pain.

Considered re-installing oblivion for a couple of months before I did
it. It was worth it,and everything runs better (especially without the
100+ mods I was using)
