I haven't played The Witcher, but I loved Oblivion (gave it like a 96%
personal review heh). Definitely worth the money. >> Stay informed about: What is better, Oblivion or The Witcher ? |

There's more immediate payoff in The Witcher, but there's more potential
in Oblivion. If you go by the precedent that Morrowind set, there was a
pretty finite game that was made nearly endless by the fan mods. The
construction kit tools for Oblivion are somewhat more limited by
comparison, but there are still people regularly putting out new content
for free. Knowing what I know about both games, I think Oblivion wins out
at about a three-to-two ratio if you go by gaming value alone.

Do I understand correctly:
"real story & character" = The Witcher,
"soulles sandpit" = Oblivion ?? >> Stay informed about: What is better, Oblivion or The Witcher ? |

From the reviews, I thought Witcher had you stuck playing one and only
one character through a pretty set story line. Is it really a wide
open game that lets you role play a character of your choice doing
what you want, finding and pursueing your own goals? >> Stay informed about: What is better, Oblivion or The Witcher ? |

Oblivion without a doubt. The main story line is not very compelling but
there are so many side quests you'll never notice, plus all the official
and unofficial mods add to the size and scope of the game. Also, it's is
rather polished compared to The Witcher.

Depends on what you're looking for.
Oblivion has very nice game mechanics. E.g. lots of different abilities and
skills. The game has a large freely roamable map and you can basically do
your own thing such as join some guilds (Mages/Fighters/Thieves/Assassins)
become a Vampire. It's a fun game. However the story isn't up to much and
the NPCs have very little depth.
The Witcher is very limited in many ways. The movement and combat are very
limited. You can go off the path and sword fighting is basically: Pick one
of three stances then click the mouse when the pointer changes shape.
However the Witcher has a good story line and some good NPCs. Plus the main
character is bloody cool. >> Stay informed about: What is better, Oblivion or The Witcher ? |

Yes! Well, unless you want to actually complete the quests and finish the
game. But otherwise, Yes!

I've played both and the Witcher is probably better (more fun),
especially since the latest patch fixed a lot of the load speed issue.
Oblivion has less bugs, but gets rather old by the end I thought.
Actually I rate Morrowind better than Oblivion.
Gothic 3 would be another contender, if it ever gets patched to where
it'll run properly.

If you decide to get Oblivion, though, keep this in mind - the 'Game of the
Year Edition' does *NOT* include the official plug-ins that originally came
with Knights of the Nine (and, for that matter, adds Securom 7 'copy
protection' to its list of 'features'). If you can live with those
'oversights' you may still enjoy your time in Cyrodiil and Hammerfell.
Otherwise, it might be a little less trouble to purchase each part
seperately. 9_9
