It is just that they prefer the same environment. I found approx. 6
nirnroots
just on the coastline from the prison sewer to the bridge and entrance to
Talos City. I do not look for mudcrabs but for clusters of rocks near the
water edge. Statistically it works in one out of four instances. I have also
found them in the open, near water and no mudcrab in the vicinity.
I think the rocks are used to make it a bit challenging to spot them
