Hey there,

What exactly do you spend your money on in Oblivion. I have a level 21
fellow now and he just spent 11k on a set of magical gauntlets which was
the first thing expensive I've bought in a while.

What else should / could I be spending my dosh on?

Hi, bye and cheers

Mundane ring and spell absorption. My character is Breton for an added
layer of protection. With this combo willies couldnt wake up my
character if she was sleeping.

Close to $1k a pop at the higher skill levels.

You should always get your training to earn the large attribute
multipliers when leveling up. Didnt you say that you wanted to drop
your dosh?

In addition, now I'm level 21 I seem incapable of killing will-o-wisps.
The problems stems from them healing themselves far better than I can
damage them.

I'd appreciate your help on this.

Can't buy skills in Oblivion? [I can't play it - my computer'd probably
explode Razz]

I found a solution to the will-o-wisps. I just bought a magical blade
with emphasis on drain magic and damage. Did the trick.

Trouble is, the weapon only has so many charges...

Oh well, better than nothing.

Yeah but they're so expensive that it's not in your best interests to do
so. For exammple out of the 100 (you need to obtain master) it would
cost mimimum of about 300 to get 1.

I prefer to save my dosh. I sometimes pay for skills if I think I'm
close to a key number like 25, 50, 75 or 100

Enchanting items is fairly expensive, and could get you something more
useful to your character than anything premade. By this level, you
should be using enchanted weapons, and recharging them can be fairly
expensive - also repairing them, if your own skill isn't up to it.
Buying and upgrading houses is really expensive, but totally optional.

I just learned really good enchanting on the game Morrowind, I know that if
the enchanting is anything like it is in that game, you should have a high
enchantment level...it helps with enchanting your own items, and recharging
itmes/spells is much quicker when you rest in a bed...try it out...get back
to me, I wonder if the enchantment is similar...cause that would be cool, I
have made some really cool items in Morrowind and I wonder if that can be
done in Oblivion when I get that game....

Enchanting in Oblivion is no longer a player-learnable skill. Instead,
it may only be done at special magical altars, most of which require
you to be a Mages Guild member to use. Also, items no longer recharge
with time, but must instead be charged by using soul gems, varla
stones, or paying a mage who has the recharge service available. The
only thing that's similar to Morrowind is that you can only enchant
with spell effects you know - but now it's limited to ones you can
currently cast, so in some cases you need to get your magic levels up
before you can make that item you wanted.

Enchanting is also limited to only a few spells. Even if you can cast
Bound Dagger adroitly, for example, you cannot put a cast on strike
Bound Dagger on your silver dagger. Enchantment sucks rotten eggs in
Oblivion if you have played Morrowind because all the enchantments you
loved will NOT be on the very short list of available enchantments.
Even if the spell looks like it is there, it is not. I used to like
to cast, for example, weak absorb health on weapons so that in very
long fights where I needed the extra health, it would be around. Now
all the weapon spells are (what I consider stupid) big-damage-that-
drains-weapon-on-first-few-blows-made-today. Only the "idiot
enchantments" seem to be available. Grump, grump.

That's WEAK! I was so hoping that enchantment would be BETTER than
Morrowind, not WORSE...damn! I made some of the coolest things on Morrowind,
like an Ebony Helm with constant Levitate and Night Eye, or a sword with
soultrap on it when it strikes an opponent...my next goal is to try and get
100% chameleon on anything that can actually hold it...I have the strategy
guide for Morrowind, and I have been playing the Xbox version of it(I also
have the computer version-WAYYYYYY better than the xbox version, but I play
it becasue my comp is down)-anyways, the guide said that certain items were
more enchantable than others, which is true, but it also said that items
like daedric claymore was like enchantable up to like 150, but when I went
to enchant it, it was like 17....I was like "what the hell?" -It has to be
an xbox version glitch, cause that sux!!!

They nerfed it... because in Morrowind, you can enchant some pieces of
clothings with constant restore health and you will be practically
invincible. And not only they restricted what can be enchanted, they
also increased the cost (so the values won't be as big), and decreased
the amount of armor/clothing slots. We used to be able to wear clothes
*and* armor, and there're lots of armor pieces, with left and right
separated. In Oblivion, not any more. We can't wear clothes with
armor... wear a robe and your greaves and armor slot will be used. And
there are only slots for helm, body, greaves, boots (1 only),
gauntlets (1 only), shield.

> or a sword with
> soultrap on it when it strikes an opponent...my next goal is to try and

This you can do in Oblivion. In fact, you can add 1 second of soultrap
to all your weapons, as it is very cheap. As long as you have the
empty soulgems, you can easily keep your items charged.

> 100% chameleon on anything that can actually hold it...

Also very doable in Oblivion... just 5 pieces of clothings and 5 grand
souls. But it will completely break the game. You will be able to
backstab anything right in front of their faces and they can't fight
back.

I was able to do the same thing in Morrowind with a 100 sneak and only
70 Chameleon. It was funny watching the Dark Brotherhood assassins
running around screaming "I want to live" while I went around collecting
the items they wanted to donate, i.e. armor they were wearing. I could
walk up to a goblin with a 100 sneak and drop them with one hit and no
damage to their armor or shields.

Good arrows for your bow.
Houses.
NOT armor etc -- you'll find better than you can buy,
except for the specials that many shops have. I like Nestor's boots
which allow you to swim with out drowning.

But after a while, money is just how you keep score. By the time I
am nearly finished, I have more than $4,000,000 and nothing useful to
spend it on.
